TerpCon Fall 2006

Bibamus

First Post
Well folks, it's nearing that time again. TerpCon Fall 2006 (TerpCon V for those of you keeping track) has been scheduled for November 18th, 2006.

We are once again going to use WarHorn as the sign-up site, seeing as we have had no complaints about it. As before, GMs are encouraged to send their games to terpcon@gmail.com starting right now. We will need:
1) The name of your game
2) The system of your game (D&D 3.5, Shadowrun, Paranoia, etc.)
3) The writer of your mod (even if it's your own creation)
4) The number of players you want (it may be a range, e.g. 4-8)
5) Whether or not you will be using pregens
6) If you aren't, what guidelines you want players to follow when creating characters as well as a way to get in contact with you for questions and/or approval.
7) A general synopsis of your mod (try to keep it short and sweet)
8) Whether this is an RPGA game
9) The slot(s) in which you want to run your game (choices are morning, afternoon, and night (exact times to be posted in a bit))
10) Any materials the players will need to bring
11) Your WarHorn name. We cannot link the game to you without this. Please help us out by including this.
12) Anything that I have forgotten to mention but you feel will be necessary for us to know.

In order to list you as the GM, you will need to go to www.warhorn.net, click on "TerpCon Fall 2006, and register. It takes about 30 seconds. The ability to reserve slots for players is up in the air right now.

Players will be able to sign up for games starting on October 18th. Either Carla (the new President), Amanda (the new President of Vices), Andrew Beard, or I will post more at a later date. And yes, I will post a new "Idiot's Guide".

Edit: At this point in time, WarHorn is still processing our request for server space, so sign-ups will be unavailable until Tuesday September 5th at the latest. We'll let you know when the site is up.

Is anything changing from last spring's version? There was a distinct lack of ENworlders in attendance, if I recall correctly - and I have to say that my attendance is less likely if that trend is going to continue.

Any thoughts?

I doubt if I'll be making the drive up. The last couple UMD gamedays were less than stellar, IMHO. I felt very much pushed to the side, since I was not of the local core gamers. I'm very disappointed in the direction the gamedays have taken over the past couple years, from being a very open and fun place to meet lots of ENWorlders and other gamers to a core group of UMD gamers who don't want outsiders playing in their games. I was actually kicked out of one of the games that I signed up for last time by the GM, who told me that the games were for his friends only. :\

WTF? Why would you even allow sign-ups if you weren't going to allow other people to play? That kind of stuff is unacceptable.

I concur that there seems to be a segregationist trend, and that's unfortunate. Although I very much enjoyed The Universe's Martian game, and had fun running my GT Wild West session, it really didn't feel like a gameday, more like a bunch of friends in the same room with a bunch of strangers. I'd just been chalking it up to being a geezer amongst college kids, but maybe it's not just me :p

I'd really hate for their not to be a gathering of ENWorlders in the area. I had too damn much fun at GenCon, and I don't want to wait till next year.

Yeah - that's a serious problem, and one that I have noticed as well. In the spring, there were only half a dozen of us at the game day who weren't directly associated with the UMD game club - not that they're not nice people, but it's really not an ENworld game day anymore. In the morning, there was one game that all the ENworld crew played in - mine. In the afternoon, there was one game that all the ENworld crew played in - Rodrigo's.

Honestly, when it gets to this low-point of outsider attendance, I feel like we're crashing their party.

Mabe we need to revive the ENworld MD/DC/VA game day under a different guise than TerpCon?

I don't know, I got an email from the guy whose game I signed up for, and he said that the game was only for the people he invited and could I please remove myself so the right person could sign up? That was close to the last straw, but the final nail for me was when I brought 20+ books for the giveaway, and every one of them went to non-ENWorld people, some of whom were winning multiple books.

I'd love to help set up another gameday for ENW (and others) that had a more friendly vibe. Unfortunatly, being 2 hours from northern VA means that I can only provide support, someone else would need to do the legwork.
