Luthiel plants himself a step or two up the stairs- obviously not going up, just trying to get out of the press of people.

[sblock=OOC] When he judges that neither the mage nor his apprentice are looking, he'll shoot a few glances up the stairs to see what he can see.[/sblock]

"Your 'perfectly safe' clearing is anything but, sir. There's evil afoot I tell you, evil. If you won't believe me, maybe you'll believe him," Devlin points to the paladin Garrit. "This man is a paladin, sworn to uphold good and smite evil. Tell us Garrit, is the evil presence close to us now?"

Garrit gives Devlin a sour look. "I am sworn to uphold good, this is true. But I must also uphold truth. Do not test the faithful." It is unclear as to whether this speech is directed at the old man in blue or Devlin, but the rogue, knowing full well his own lie, is pretty sure that he is the subject. With another look at Devlin, Garrit adds, "That being said, yes, the evil is near."

The old man seems to be bolstered by Garrit's vague response. "Near, ha! It's always near! This clearing is perfectly safe, it can be near all it wants! But unless my powerful wards have failed (quite impossible, I might add!) there is no evil in this clearing." Despite his brave words, the man looks to Devlin for some kind of confirmation.

Malen positions himself as much out of arms reach of both the old man and the boy, using others as cover if necessary, and says. "Sela's teats! This is tiresome. Someone hurry up and tell me which one of these two," he gestures to the wizard and the apprentice, "gets a crossbow bolt in their gut."

Devlin Magruder, human rogue 3

Devlin looks at Garrit and smiles, "Thank you, sir, for answering my question."

The rogue then turns and fixes his crossbow on the mage's chest. "Evil is here, and the source of it is you."

Devlin then pulls the trigger on his weapon...
