Yeah, apaprently CI Host was having "Intermittent network problems." These were allegedly "effecting" their customers. Oddly enough, it didn't "effect" their own site - do they not trust their own hosting services enough to use them themselves?
 


It makes more sense than you think...

You're running such a service, and you're doing some maintenance, or there's some technical problem, and sites become unreachable. What do you expect the first reaction of the poeple who own those sites? Check the web page! It's a good bet many smaller site owners may not have written down contact phone number or e-mail addresses, as they automaticlly assume tech support contact info will be on the web site. Darned annoying if a technical glitch in your own system means you cannot tell your customers about the glitch, no?

Using the same system as the customers would be called "putting all your eggs in one basket", and that's usually not wise.
