Tharivious's Rant About Annoyances

I think you misunderstood me a little. When I said "this group of people" I meant people who feel the need to complain. Yes, I know that some people take it personally and get offended. But for every person who gets offended, there's another who says "Yeah, I feel the same way."

And yes, one or two of my characters are on the periphery of the "late night revelers." I think it's partly bitterness that I'm not always included. But at the same time, when I am included, I feel more like an interloper than an actual member of the group.

I know I'm messed up in the head, but it's my problem and I have to live with it. If you don't like what I have to say, feel free to ignore me. But I can't just suffer in silence. It's nice to get some positive feedback occasionally, even on a negative topic. Misery loves company.

In all fairness

To be perfectly frank and honest, it is difficult to run a character such as this one and have no innuendo or questionable things arise. FYI She is a succubus. My character has been picked on by a certain wizo that will look and frown at her for even giving a gentle peck on the cheek to another char.

That is beside the point. The reason that I am adding my little opinion to this diatribe is the fact that it would be nice if the ones that have a problem with a certain behavior would pm the ones involved before going straight to the top. This char received a warning due to one char that entered the room that several were in became offended. IF that char had pm'd us, it would have stopped. But we were not told, the char left and the wrath of the Wizos fell upon me and only one other player, when the entire group was involved. Again... the same wizo was involved. What the warning was for was far less offensive than what I have seen go on late at night. And not just the group mentioned before. I have not really seen that much they have done that is offensive, however, I do not come on that much, that late at night anymore.

I merely ask those that read this to remember that there are many ideas of fun and entertainment. Please be sure to pm anyone that is doing something that bothers you.. auto hits, innuendo, etc. Then if there is no response or things do not change, go to the Wizos.. that way they do not have to spend so much time taking care of policing the site because most players will police themselves if it is brought to their attention.

An Overdue Correction of Wording

Precisely. I never intended to cause this many problems with my initial post on this subject. I have spoken with two of the players on the matter, and have explained things to them. I will explain myself here as I have explained to them.

My use of the word "group" was more open ended than the group of players that have been put on the defensive by this thread. I was not referring solely to them, nor was I referring to all of them. My usage of "group" was aimed at the individuals who do go too far, not at those who skirt the lines.
I recognize that the majority of players within the group that has been on the defensive are skilled roleplayers and do know what they are doing, and I apologize for my miswording in my initial post.
But at the same time, there are some players who are not affiliated with this group who are a part of the group that I was referring to.

Yes, I do realize that I should have made this clear much earlier, but I felt the need to defend my views, and I can be a bit stubborn. So in defending my views, I overlooked correcting my miswording. So, once more, my apologies on my choice of words. I assure you all that in the future, I will be more specific.

*skips away, and goes to happier threads*

I've always been comfortable enough, while in character, to walk up to those characters who look like they're having fun and ask if I can join them. I really don't see why it has to be more complicated than that. Unless of course, their characters are angry or annoyed with yours for some reason or another, and that problem should stay between the characters.

When it comes to the fun and humorous flirtations made during late night parties, not everyone watching (or participating) will catch the various levels of playfulness, jesting and humor contained within each.

Typing in chat rooms is a limited medium, and people don't have the tools to detect the tones and sarcasm oither characters use when they speak. In addition, few narrate their character to reflect 'how' they say what they do. There will always be miscommunications, especially when it comes to chat rooms. Thus, I am always prepared to give people the benefit of the doubt.

As far as any inferences that two characters may be engaging in a sexual encounter "off screen", I'm personally alright with it as long as it isn't overtly publicised. Sex is certainly within the scope of normal human activities. As long as RPers don't abuse this fact and work around this subject with as much discretion as most adults do in real life (when in public) then everything should be alright.

Everything considered, things are not that bad. I have fun with it most of the time and feel lucky to be a part of the ISRP rooms.

Peaceful resolve accomplished on the previous point, or at least it is in my eyes, hopefully no bad blood remains for anyone else. But as I said:

I'll likely add more to my rantings at a later date, next time I see something that bothers me that I think is worth posting.
I'm a man of my word. There is something that occured to me the other evening that has been bothering me, and it's something I think is worth mentioning, so here it goes.

Knowing the Names of People That you Don't Know
That's right, the telepaths. Not all telepaths mind you, only a select few that get dubbed telepaths. I think everyone knows what I'm talking about here. These are the people that always know the name of whatever character they see, whether they've met them, seen them around before, or not.
"But, the names of well known characters could be logically known."
I'm sure that some people might argue this point, I however, cannot agree. If a person is well known enough to have name recognition by complete strangers, then they've become too well known. And even then, I've had this happen to my characters in the strangest ways.
It happened to Tharivious the other night, someone referred to him as Thar, despite never being introduced as such to this character, or even referred to as Thar around this character. Granted, Tharivious might be known by some characters, but known by a nickname? I think not. And that's not even the strangest one.
My character Igyvasfaxavaj showed up late one night in the tavern, and there were a few people talking. He was there in his drow form, and as he sits down to drink his whiskey, I read "A drow named Igy, now I've seen everything." from one of these 'telepathic' characters. I simply had him react as, "Oh great, another telepath." at hearing his name being spoken by a complete stranger. And before anyone says that Igy might have name recognition, he's barely been in more than 20 times in 6 months, and has conversed with maybe 15 other characters, and that's being generous.

I just think that it's rediculous for such things, especially when a character could very easily be warded against mind reading, just look at the Mind Blank spell, it wards a creature completely and has next to no means of bypassing short of dispelling or anti-magic, and even stops Wish type effects, of course, if someone is using a Wish to learn some random person's name, then they should read Nugan's "How not to be a Power Gamer" thread.
It just bugs me when a player insists on doing something like that, and I let the newer players slide, since they don't likely realize the mistake that they're making, but when a player has been around for a while, there's no excuse for such things.

Ahem..

Eeesh.. all I have to say , is grow up. People don't RP just like you do, get over it..

No one FORCES you to interact with others on site, and if someone is gaming in a style that you simply can not find acceptable.. there is always the option of /ignore add.

I hardly think it necessary to come on the MB's and start tossing out words about this, that and the other.. and starting a huge argument among all those who come to this site to have fun.

If something is against the CoC.. report it. Other than that, you have no control and no say over what others can say, do or think..

Moreover, I'm sick of rants, because they ruin the site on a whole.. we get so caught up arguing, we all forget to have fun.. so I'm adding my spiel.. (blah Nevine and his grammar)

ENOUGH!

Let creativity take over, and let us all have fun again.

Absolutely right, no one forces me to interact with others, just like no one forces anyone to read a thread clearly marked as a rant if they don't like negativity. *points at the mad smiley next to this thread, and the threads name* Clearly marked as a rant, and a negative rant at that. There's no notice saying "Read This" or anything of that sort, and there's nothing forcing people to read it.

You said it yourself, no control over what others say, do, or think. A rant is a rant, and when the rant is written, there's nothing making someone read it if they don't want to, and that's all I have to say about that. If you're sick of rants, my advice, is don't read them.

While this edges dangerously close to Flamesville..the old 'do un to others' quote comes to mind..

No one is forced to post their opinion in a public forum where it can (and will) be criticized either. One could just rant in their head and keep it to themselves..it's safer in there anyway.

Pot, "Kettle?"
Kettle, "Yes, Pot?"
Pot, "You're black.."

Edit: On a side note..I think anything marked as a rant should be locked right away from now on. That way, the person can vent, no one can comment and it just dies away.
