The Ashes is a biannual cricket contest between England and Australia. It's one of the oldest continuously running rivalries in sports, as it's been played contiously since the 1880s. It's called the Ashes because the winner gets a trophy which is an Urn containing the ashes of some cricket stumps which were burned over 100 years ago.

The contest consists of 5 matches called 'Tests' each of which last up to 5 days.

Currently, England lead the this years' series 2-1 with one tie (or draw), and the final test is in progress.

There is a great deal of excitement this year because it may be the first time England win the series since the mid-80s (someone fill in the exact year). Australia must win the final test to prevent that, and thus 'retain' the Ashes.

Looks like you are going to get it It will be a real pity if this series is decided by the rain; it is one of the best Ashes series in recent times and I would have loved to see it go down to the wire.
