The Bamfsies Announce the Best Superhero RPGs!

The Bamfsies (which I mentioned a while back) have just announced the winners of their superhero RPG-themed awards. Nine superhero games have won, chosen by judges Cam Banks, Dan Davenport, Christopher Helton, and Tommy Brownell. The Bamfsies describe themselves as "a cheeky and fun RPG awards focused solely on superhero RPGs. We’re not nearly as serious as the Ennies. We’re probably more serious than the Grammys."

I'd really love to play just about any of these. I've got the rule books for Icons Assembled Edition and BASH! Ultimate Edition gathering dust on my shelf, just waiting for my group to finally finish our D&D 5e adventure so I can run one of them.

For older stuff, we had the Hall of Fame (and Marvel SAGA is the greatest superhero RPG I have ever ran).

You and me both, Mr. Brownell. The Marvel Super-Heroes Adventure Game, using the SAGA System and published by TSR / WotC in 1998 is the best superhero rpg I've ever played and gamemastered. So fast, so fun, and so tragically underrated.

I love these threads. They basically turn into a "quickest to name every item that isn't on the list!" threads!

Yeah I'm really curious as to how GCore got what it got. That game isn't actually new. I saw the writer of it posting about it years ago. It looks no different now than it used to then.

I guess I was surprised. It seems like a lot on this list were older games, where Rotted Capes was Kickstarted and cant be more than 2 years old. I met the team at Gencon last year, and it has a very unique game engine. t was out a year before Cold Steel Wardens (which I am in!)
I still love the FASERIP Marvel as it was so fast to make a character, had 1 chart for combat resolution, and comics fans knew the setting and could take the stories anywhere.

Not seeing Hero Games on here is no surprise to me. Now they are a Kick Starter footnote. Gone are the Days when I could kick back and game with Randy and Ray in a game of Justice Inc. When Big Blue ruled and there was a sense of closeness to the owners to their customer base.

The King is dead and the crown goes to Mutant & Masterminds for their savvy business practices and Steve Kenson for his ability to create.
