The Captain's Caper! (Dunamin judging)

Alexander follows quietly. Something in the air doesn't feel right, and his nose is itching. And Alexander knows that when his nose itches, he has to secure his shield tightly, keep an hand on the sword, and briefly pray to Palladys...

[sblock=ooc]Well, I'm enjoying greatly both the adventure and the company. So if the others are ok with it (I men, maybe you may feel Alexander is a bit out of place in the group?) I'd stick with both.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]I'm not making any promises about my availability in the medium-term future, since real life, shall we say, has a team of enforcers on their way to ensure that I pay the attention I owe. Well, one enforcer, really, but that will suffice. In principle, I love how this team is coming together and if we can find stories to carry on with, so much the better, but, you know, one thing at a time. :)[/sblock]

Quagmire smiles a grin that is a great deal more crazy than friendly, and takes up a position behind the dragonborn woman, making absolutely sure that she comes along without any funny business.

[sblock=Continueing]Well I am definetly up for going on with this group, the chemistry is great! As for Alex, what fun would being a corrupting influence be if we did not have anyone to corrupt? ;) On a different note Brudd has become much more cheerful than I intended, but then that is the fun of organic character development! He also needs to take skill focus gurning...[/sblock]

Brudd follows along whistling amiably, currently life was good, though the back of his mind he is a little non plussed by his recent good fortune - the boss must be working on a real doozy for him.

"So do we 'ave te worry about anythin' when ye dig this sword up Arjhann love? Any guardians or boogie men", the Minotaur sticks his tongue out and waggles it whilst rolling his eye madly, "which we might be wantin' te be preparin' for?"

He watches the Dragonborn carefully attempting to access her motives and the truth of her reply.

[sblock=Insight 13, Passive Insight 18] I am still not entirely sure which is appropriate when, need to read up on that...Insight (1d20+8=13) [/sblock]

Hrav eyes the dragonborn, also looking to see how she responds to Brudd's question. Passive Insight 16

[sblock=Sequels]I'm really enjoying the group myself, and will be happy to stick together as long as we all are available. The chemistry is great. Girth is crazy fun, Alex is a perfect straight man, and we monstrous pirates are each somewhere in the middle. :)[/sblock]

[sblock=On Insight]Well, my understanding is that if you are trying to be insightful, then you roll the check. If I'm checking as DM to see if you notice something without alerting you, then I use the passive Insight. But then you get into situations like this where you have a lower check when you were trying hard to notice something than you would have without trying. Does it make sense? Not always but thems the rules...

Just read the PHB though and if you aren't rushed, you can take 10 and get the same as your passive check. Not a problem in this case, so you can use the 18 result.[/sblock]Arjhaan flinches as the minotaur asks her about enemies. "Um, yeah there might be some critters around the chest. Scorpions I think. Big suckers. Otherwise I'd have dug it up myself before now and taken care of business."

Brudd chuckles,

"And ye didn't think we'd notice the giant scorpions? Not to worry we'll whomp them, though we will of course expect a fee from ye, yer deal was te give the sword te Thorendin not te point him in the direction of a bunch of giant scorpions I'll wager. Don't fret though our rates are dead reasonable, in that if ye don't find them reasonable ye' find yerself dead - just my little joke. No seriously 10gp per scorpion, can't say fairer than that."

The Minotaur nods earnestly,

"Ye those are the standard rates, now we'll let ye off payin' expenses, ye know wear 'n tear on weapons, healin' costs," Brudd waves a hand vaguely, "and such."

"assuming, that is, that there be no surprises. There won't be no surprises, will there, now?" Quagmire growls, still grinning in rather unpleasant fashion.

"Surprises? Surely not." she answers.

The party boards the ship again and follows Arjhaan's map to a nearby small isle. Weighing anchor, you make your way to shore in a rowboat. Following landmarks from the beach, you make your way inland through the jungle to a clearing beside a small cave opening. The area is littered with half a dozen purple colored scorpions which are some 4 feet long each. Their electric blue claws glow and crackle with energy as they scuttle towards you.

"What we need is buried right beneath that rock in the middle of the creatures." Arjhaan tells the party quietly while stepping back away from the coming fight.
