D&D 5E The case for (and against) a new Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book

TheSword

Legend
It’s kind of ironic that everyone goes on about the Sword Coast being done to death in Forgotten Realms adventures when in fact the Sword Coast Region is a relatively small area and the main reason it’s famous is because of the Baldurs Gate/Tales of the Sword Coast game and therefore is a convenient name for marketing purposes.

Curse of Strahd, Descent into Avernus, Tomb of Annihilation only begin in the region and very rapidly move on.

Most of Rise of Tiamat and the second half of Hoard of the Dragon Queen are the North and the Western Heartlands.

Storm Kings Thunder is firmly in the Silver Marches/Luruar

Dragon Heist and Dungeon of the Mad Mage is in Waterdeep which is its own Region, the Gateway to the North, and nothing like the rest of the Sword Coast.

Princes of the Apocalypse is firmly in the North.

Out of the Abyss is firmly underground.

It’s a bit like saying Wyoming or Utah is part of the Pacific Coast. What SCAG actually is a brief overview of the western Portion of the Forgotten Realms which is a pretty massive area. I appreciate that they have redefined the regions to just the Western Heartlands and The North but these are the most recognizable and detailed areas. In essence they are the heart of the setting. I’d expect to see lots more adventures taking place beginning (and continuing there) as time goes on. Icewind Dale is totally plausible.
