The Character Creation Thread

Hope this is the right Forum....

I'm pretty sure this has been done before, but I haven't seen it in a while, so I guess I'll give it another shot.

Let's brainstorm! Name a class or prestige class (or some combination thereof) and come up with an interesting character concept that fits it. This should help players as well as DMs (coming up with fun NPCs isn't easy). I'll get things started...

All things are finite and transient, eventually everything, even magic items, wear out. It is best to live without attachment, so all you ever carry are a quaterstaff, some rations, and your clothing, all of which are often replaced, even if still in usable condition.

However, to make up for the addiction to special/magical equipment that all characters have in a "normal" campaign you have something else.

You take a full share of the party's treasure hauls, but give it away to charity or the church every time. However, sometimes at night, as you sleep you have dreams, these dreams almost always carry a message or a quest, but when you awaken you have a new tatoo or mark on your body which grants you a special power on par with any given magic item.

Basically, this allows you to have magic items without having magic ITEMS. Of course it's similar to the tatooed monk PrC, but I don't know enough about that one, and this is done with a different mechanic.

Dwarven Smith/Wizard- Using your amazing intelligence of craftsmanship and magic, you build yourself a magical suit of armor that gives you amazing power. You fight evil where it stands using your powerful suit, but you conceal your identity so as not to be persecuted by those you attack when the suit's gone.

Expert: You come from a very backwater community where the only magical resources are a few ancient texts detailing magnificent magic users that once lived, but not going far into the details of magic. Assuming that all mages are in fact simple charlatans, you train an eagle "familiar", craft all sorts of interesting alchemical substances and wander the land in old robes with a long white beard, posing as a wise and powerful wizard.

Cleric- Your character vehemently believes that there are no such things as souls, and that when we die we are but dust. To avoid this grim fate, he studies the mystical energies of undeath and healing, in hopes of eventually gaining lichdom so that he may live out his life, undisturbed by death.

Paladin- You are a brave quest knight sworn to destroy the vile black knight <insert wicked sounding name here>.

Blackguard- Your plans have been thwarted by <insert name of do-gooder paladin>, but you will find him and slay him before he becomes a real threat.

In truth: You are a schizophrenic, switching between these two personalities, eternally chasing yourself.

Heh. I got two images from that...

The Throwing and Returning Bracers of Striking...

... or a troll with that freaky rip-off-your-arm-and-use-it-as-a-ranged-weapon feat from Savage Species...
