The Clone Wars in theaters Aug 15, 2008

Which is great, actually, because there's a multiplex right there.
Anyone want to take bets on how long the tickets will be on sale before they sell out? I doubt the people in Indianapolis know what they're in for with this... :)

And the mall will be a freakin' ZOO this year with this going on.

Well, I should also like to add that my experience with that theater is that it was the weirdest damn schedule for show times I've ever seen. I recall walking over to see the Bourne Supremacy three times without luck. I think they show a movie, like, three times a day total.

I think this period is where Lucas feels the main thrust of the story lies, with Kenobi, Yoda, and--most importantly--Vader still alive. I know he had some ideas for a new arc after RotJ, but maybe now he's content to let everyone live happily ever after.

From what I recall of the post-RotJ non-canon books, it gets rather DragonBall-Zesque with A) trading off a sense of wonder for an increasingly dark, heavy tone, B) characters shuffling on and off the mortal coil willy-nilly (that damn Palpatine just won't stay dead), and C) it becomes a total jedi power trip where the dials go up to 11...then 12...then 38...then 5,604....People are using the force to blow up planets and stars.

Having said all that, I certainly think that animation has come far enough that an animated sequel featuring Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia would be stupid not do do. Now is the time to do it too. In fact, I think such a film would be the breakthrough film that animation has been waiting for: an animated adventure film that can skew to audiences more than six years old.

While I do agree some of the stories are VERY ridiculous, some I think could work quite well. Say perhaps the Thrawn Trilogy of if you wanted to back away from Jedi stuff, do the X-Wing Series.

Either series be good since they are a nice bridge between Return of The Jedi and New Republic Era.

Also I wouldn't be all that upset to see a show/movie covering the Tales of the Bounty Hunters (though I doubt they would do that since it goes against the new (in my opinion: ridiculous/bad) background for Boba Fett).

The EU has simply taken the main role of Star Wars stories set post Episode 6. Lucas if he did do movies post Episode 6 would not go with the EU, so already there will be built in dissatisfaction.

Frankly I would like to see more fleshed out between Obi-Wan & Anakin.....you got a little bit of that close friendship in the opening of Episode 3, but I would like to see more. Frankly I would love to see an Clone Wars live action Star Wars movie w/ Anakin & Obi-Wan, a Star Wars adventure film, as it were, that is not going to have to be chained to advancing plot.

I like Republic period, and think there are a number of things you can do, especially given that Jedi and most of the big movers and shakers are available.

I agree with you, the Republic period offers more possibilities. Post RotJ there's just Luke, Leia, and Luke's pupils in terms of Jedi (with a couple random guys thrown in some books that I can't remember). During the Republic there's plenty of Jedis and way more political intrigue because the galaxy isn't consolidated yet.

While I'm excited to see this (loved the CN Clone Wars shorts), I can understand wanting to see more of what happens Post-RotJ.

However, nothing says that were Lucas to do post-RotJ stuff he had to set it shortly after the films. Given how that humans can live around 100 years or so in a galaxy far, far away, and Jedi even more so, it could be possible to have a CW-type mini-series focusing around Ben Skywalker, having been recently promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight in the aftermath of the current crisis as the Galactic Alliance tries to pick up the pieces and restore faith in them after Darth Caedus' stint as head honcho.

That way, those people that really like the post-RotJ stuff that's already out there don't get slapped in the face as their favorite stories/books suddenly get kicked over to the Infinities bucket.
