The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

Out of Character

Oh...

And the internal temperature of those steaks was over 150 degrees Farenheit...

NO PARASITES OR BACTERIA!

Yeah, I know what you're thinking Mr.-Set-the-Wizard-on-Fire-In-the-Library.

On another note...

I think I figured out how we can beat this veil.

Adie's simple-minded, so the veil doesn't affect her. Meaning there's some sort of intelligence link.

All we need to do is cause brain damage to one of our party members. Then, that member can get the information from Adie and 'lead' (in the loosest sense of the word) the party to the bad guys.

Woe's powers aren't related to intelligence, so I vote we give him a frontal lobotomy. If Tander's not able to heal the damage after we finish the adventure, it won't be that big a loss to Dunamin's character.

I'd volunteer my character, but he's a wizard. They NEED intelligence.

What do you guys think?

;)

(If we did lobotomize Woe, do you think we'd get level-appropriate experience for incapacitating his character?)

And one more thing...

On his way to the bedroom, Palindrome takes a few moments to tie up the unconscious halfling.

OOC: Nobody--and I mean, NOBODY!--gets to escape (or sneak attack us) after we rescue them.

I think trying it would warrant Woe breaking Palindrome's fingers in three different places, while arguing his own theory: That P's a better candidate to lead them because the veil probably only can be broken by sociopaths like Adie and him.
Then he would ask Tander to heal P up, so he can break him again and earn even more XP. ;)

Anyways, there's definitely more to Adie than being a nutcase. The way she looked at Tander "with a snide smile" makes me think she might be trying to play us.

By the way, Atriden let me know he wouldn't mind adjusting his PC if it will put Ken more at ease that he wouldn't be "cutting in" on Palindrome's role in the party. That includes changing Bluff for Acrobatics, for instance.
Personally, I don't think there's any need. Tander and Woe both have Diplomacy trained but they use it in very different ways - Tander is nice and sincere, while Woe ranges from charming to downright manipulative.[/sblock]

LOL!

Yep. I agree. Is there some way to use Insight in an active fashion? We need to figure out her angle.

And we should probably tie her up, too.

If we could do something to push her to the breaking point, she might drop the act (assuming that she is acting). If she's not acting, then our characters have done a 'really bad thing'--but we can add that to the list.

By the way, Atriden let me know he wouldn't mind adjusting his PC...
Tell him not to worry about it. Let's get him in the group and see how it works. I'm thinking that Palindrome is arrogant enough that he'll give a thief advice on how to pick locks. That should add a few moments of hah-hah funny. ;)[/sblock]

The halfling girl's eyes blink open and she gasps for air sucking in massive desperate breaths for a full minute before recovering herself and staring up wide eyed at Tander.

"What? Who? Ah, where's Clanks?" She says clutching her forehead. She glances around furtivly and her eyes fall upon the dismembered Forged's corpse.

"No, Clanks! You hairy knuckled incestuous back ally bilge biting bastards!" She veritably howls straining against her bonds and attempting to bite at Tander.

Walking into the bedroom Palindrome discovers a grisly scene. Upon a pristine white bedspread in the midst of a bare minimilistic room is the naked form of a beautiful elven women - though she does wear a silver necklace. Or at least she might once have been beautiful, currently she looks like she has been deflated. She bears several blade marks consistent with those upon the Forged and upon closer examination seems to have been almost completely drained of blood.

The necklace is magical.

OOC: Feel free to initiate suspision insight checks, roll and I will respond. Otherwise I am going off your passive checks.

[sblock=Arcana DC 15]The necklace appears to bear a variant of the now familiar combination of illusion, enchantment, and divination.[/sblock]

[sblock=Arcana Check]Arcana Check (1d20+10=12)

Oh, come ON!

DM, I'm re-trying and taking 10.

*Poof*

Arcana Check = 20.[/sblock]

[sblock=Suspicion Checks]Cool! I'm down with the suspicion checks. I have a feeling we're all going to do it. A lot. Probably too much.[/sblock]

[sblock=See?]

This is why we tie up all the people we rescue. She's OBVIOUSLY hostile![/sblock]

Walking into the bedroom Palindrome discovers a grisly scene...

"Oh, thank goodness," sighs Palindrome, "That settles one mystery."

Using the wavy bladed dagger, Palindrome lifts the necklace from the neck of the corpse. He pulls a sheet over the woman to cover her nakedness.

He gives the necklace the magical 'stink-eye', searching for curses or harmful effects.

OOC: Arcana Check (1d20+10=29).
If there are none, he puts on the necklace.

[sblock=The Screamer]No joy on uncovering the hidden portion of the Screamer?[/sblock]

Ha, thinks Palindrome now I wonder what those ridiculous Bugbears have to do with all this Adie says that Arnest was involved in somekind of cult, but how is this all connected. I suppose this is that Elven girl Leressa they have all been talking about, the "tutor".

OOC: Forgive me for putting thoughts in Palindrome's mind, let me know if its inappropriate and I will be happy to edit, but I believe you will get my gist.
