The Concept Is... he DOESN'T use a sword.

I've wished since 3.0 came out that there'd be a suitable Core-book two-handed bludgeoning weapon. The greatclub is terrible. Where's my really, really big hammer that does 1d12/20/x3? I know that's the same as a greataxe except for damage type, but it's a flaver issue. I wanna crush things! :)

Yeah, give me a greathammer (1d12/20/x3) and I could tell you my next PC...

I believe there are stats for a maul in the FRCS.

From what I can remember it was similar to a dwarven war-axe, except that it did bludgeoning damage.

I don't mean to get technical, but isn't a rapier a kind of sword?

No. It is. You're right. I realized that as soon as I posted it.

I guess when I think "sword" I think of something that looks more basic sword-ish...like the Excalibur or something.

A longsword, which I think this thread was about, originally. I don't think the original poster is complaining about greatswords, bastards swords, falchions, scimitars, or rapiers. Just the endless stream of longswords.

I did have a 2nd Ed. Fighter Mage specialized in Daggers... the adventure had a horribly powerful dagger thou. Returning too...

I think the DM didnt expect a specialized dagger fighter. The damage I did with it was incredibly big. :)

Since Longspear is a simple weapon in 3.5, this may make something of a comeback. Armies of conscripted commoners can be proficient in heavy crossbow and longspear. As are any conscriped Experts. Not too bad a setup for a citizen militia.

What I really miss is the pike. Not really a PC's weapon so much, but great for NPCs.

after reading this thread, I'm set on making a Halberd-Fighter, spending tons of feats on things that will help me become better in all aspects of this vesitile, and oft-ignored, weapon. :D

The feat I suggested above (allows a Halberd to be used as a reach or close weapon) makes sense, and is balanced, IMHO. I hope my DM agrees!

Give them watchmaking and money-laundering and you'd have the Swiss... sorry about that ;)
