I liked the visuals of Aliens very much, but I don't know what particular genre it belongs to. Realistic weapons (vs. press the red button and enemy disappears), with a strong human element against the complex technological environment. Plus, of course, the aliens themselves grant for some pretty stunning visuals.

Games Workshop get close with their 40K stuff. I adore the visuals of Necromunda - cyberpunk but...good. Not mired in that sort of cheesey 80's cyberpunk style where the internet has become a gateway to superhuman powers and a semi-digital existence, instead of the clunky, flawed, market-driven vehicle for porn and advertising which we now know it is.

Post Apocalyptic. Gamma World, Fallout CRPG (series), Mad Max movies.
Our world is gone. The recognizable world around you is shattered and destroyed. It exists now as a backdrop for the adventures of gritty, battered heroes in piecemeal armor, some armed with flintlocks, some with swords and some with laser pistols.
Villains range from disfigured demigogues leading a horde of mutant followers to deranged cleaning robots armed with disintigrators.
It is our flawed and broken world, but with a different fantasy feel to it. There is no magic, but that which you find inside you. Courage, Hope and Determination.
Plus, what other genre could let you have a siberian tiger moreau armed with twin grenade launchers, backed up by a mutated squirrel with two heads piloting a gunship?
And the pair hunting down a deranged chihuahua moreau and his legion of mutant rebels.

For me, it's easily Victorian Age mystery (ala Sherlock Holmes) or adventure fiction from the era (ala King Solomon's Mines). How can you not love foiling evil in the fog-shrouded streets of Victorian London, battling through leagues of cannibal savages in the distant African interior, or working to reveal the re-organized Thugee of 19th century India?
