The coolest sound was heard the other day.

I called up the wife and asked her to meet me between her work and someplace where they sell toys. A couple hours, a few bucks, and a couple of toys put together later our seven month old is sitting before a toy a month or so ahead of her. She watches as my wife drops this plastic ball through a hole, the ball rolls thru and bells, lights and such all start up. The daughter starts giggling, then laughing, a couple more balls roll, and she is belly laughing- the first time I have ever heard her laugh like that.

In all the years I have been alive I have never heard a child laugh like that, it was shear and utter joy. It occurred to me only now that I was wondering if anyone else had ever heard complete and utter joyful life from a child/infant? I don’t mean a regular laugh, but a full belly, nothing else matters in the world laugh.

Harmon,

I've been there man. The first time I heard one of my twins give a full laugh brought me to tears. Something about the unadulterated, 'nothing can ever be wrong' laugh just hit a nerve with me.

Yep, twice - one with each. My son was a little older but was watching "Thomas the Tank Engine" and just lost it. My daughter was about 3 months old and had gotten a "Bumble Ball" that lit up in the dark for Christmas - we turned it on, she giggled, she grabbed it and went into hysterics. Later that became here favorite teething toy, she would turn it on and she'd stick it against here gums for a light massage.

The nice thing is as they get older - it doesn't change, hearing them laugh themselves silly is still a wonderful sound, BTW mine are 17 and 13 now...

Someone needs to bottle it (at least tape it). But when a child laughs like this it makes everything in the world go away. It is the single most beautiful sound in the world (with possible exception of first cry at birth of first child)

Another moment like this was with my daughter was she was a mere few months old. She giggled in the way babies do (no sound but the tongue sticks out). I think I cried then. I know the wife did.

Beautiful moments.........

While our daughter (Bug) has laughed, and gives more raspberries she has not given the level of laugh she gave that night. My wife and I have talked about it a few times, and we both agree that neither of us has ever heard anything like it. I mentioned to her that I thought that if I heard that from another child I might have had the same reaction, she agreed.

I agree that somehow and in some way they need to bottle that sound, that expression, and that look.

Just thought I would share. Peace, guys. :D

Hay, Mega- all is well with you?

I remember the first time my son laughed like that; it was sublime. It's like the most fundamental essence of happiness distilled into a few moments.

Amazing.

My kids sometimes watch an old Scooby Doo video and they are all laughing - what a great sound! I also never appreciated the Red-Green show until I watched it one day with them.
