The Demon-blooded (Varolka added 1/3)

Greybar

No Trouble at All
from the Pervasive Infernal blood in campaign world thread.

I'm looking at a kingdom in my world that has been conquered by infernal-blooded folks. I don't have a strong devil/demon division in this campaign, the leaning being towards chaos though. The true infernal beings have not come over (for in-game reasons), so the ruling class have only some of their powers. The kingdom it is not uncommon to see a batwinged master lashing a slave for some minor infraction in the middle of street (though it might be considered gauche).

So I don't want all of the nobility of this world to be half-fiends (too similiar in big punch ways). I'm thinking that the powerful folks can be represented using class levels in demon/devil/fey/etc as they learn to master and exploit their blood power. The half-fiend template, fiending template, and tiefling race will be other shorthand means.

So here are where I'll put some of those residents.

Oh yeah, that means Haraiva players should stay out.

Suggestions, comments, criticism and more demon-blooded are welcome.

Varolka's natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned and evil-aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Varolka gains +4 on saves versus poison. She has Electricity Resistance 10 and Fire/Cold/Acid Resistance 5. She has Damage Reduction 5 that can be overcome by good-aligned weapons.

Spell-Like Abilities: At will: Mirror image; 1/day: heroism. Caster level 9th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Stunning Screech (Su): Once per day Varolka can emit a piercing screech. All creatures except for demons within a 30-foot radius must succeed on a DC17 Fortitude save or be stunned for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based. Demon-blooded gain a +4 on this save.

Spores (Ex): Varolka can release masses of spores from her body 3/day as a free action. The spores automatically deal 1d8 points of damage to all creatures adjacent to her. They then penetrate the skin and grow, dealing an additional 1d4 points of damage each round for 10 rounds. At the end of this time, the victim is covered with a tangle of viny growths. (The vines are harmless and wither away in 1d4 days.) A delay poison spell stops the spores' growth for its duration. Bless, neutralize poison, or remove disease kills the spores, as does sprinkling the victim with a vial of holy water.

Sneak Attack: +3d6 damage.
Death Attack: (Fort DC13)

Assasin Spells Known: (2,1; DC12+lvl)
1st: ghost sound, true strike, feather fall
2nd: invisibility, cat's grace

Technical Notes:
Working from Savage Species. I split some of the level 9 and level 10 powers: She lost the Vrock Powers 1/day and summon dretches but gained Stunning Screech 1/day and a half-way bump to the Electricity Resistance (seems odd to go from ER5 to Elec Immune in one step anyway). I dropped the Vrock Powers item largely because teleport doesn't match elements of the campaign setting. Similiarly, the half-vrock will have +4 to poison saves instead of poison immunity. I've marked her as CR8 since the rogue/assassin levels are not playing to the vrock strengths. I think a party of level 8 would take her, though the first sneak attack would be rough. A party of level 10 would smack her down fast, I think. Her Death Attack has a very low DC(13) though that still would be tough for your average wizard-type.

Tactics:
Varolka's obvious combat danger comes from an invisible Death Attack/Sneak Attack with all five of her natural attacks gaining the +3d6 damage bonus. In addition, she will usually coat her claws with a poison appropriate to her mission and target. Don't forget the heroism ability. She is vicious and brutral.

Other:
Varolka has worked as a army scout, but her chaotic nature and growing power led her to become an assassin for hire. She has tried to learn how to read and manipulate people, but she is a child in this compared to those who manipulate her...
