D&D 5E The Dice Tower plays D&D

The Dice Tower folks fulfill their kickstarter stretch goal and play a live streamed game of D&D! I didn’t know they had this planned and it was a surprise in my feed. It’s been fun so far. I hope it leads to more.

I watch the Dice Tower a lot, fun to see them playing some D&D. They seem to be having a good time but I think I can take a few things away from watching this both in general and more specifically about boardgamers trying ttrpgs. One thing I noticed is the GM is running a very combat focused game (an often cited stereotype of what boardgamers like) and the players seem to be grasping at other aspects of play. In terms of 5e pillars the game is all combat, Tom is desperately clinging to some exploration (ie; the pool of liquid). He really wants to find something cool, but the game seems to be pushing hard to the next fight where the enemies are suuuper evil, no point talking to them . Not down on the Gm at all, just noticing things about styles.
