How did you do it?

Started with a table and still use one for that group. Started another group around a table that moved online. Started a third group online that's still online. Started another group in person that's now online. So, it depends on the group.

I was playing D&D long before I even knew of computers.

They did exist then, but I didn't know about them until I was introduced to the Commodore 64.

I didn't even know there was an internet until the late 1990s.

very nice people i thank y6ou for the moment of your time when you answer.

to you that said th game play goes faster at a table in my 2 times of useing it i would say it did go faster but i also had 4 less people than the usual game.

I put used a table, however, there are some caveats I wish to impose.

I started at a table and usually play at a table. There have been two or three times I have played without, not what I call a great set-up, but occasionally, it was warranted.

The last three groups I have gamed with have not used "a" table, we have used two or more tables. Usually one for the DM(s) to use and one for players. This allows players to sprawl (as they are usually want to do) and the DMs still have room for maps, minis, models, etc. Also the last group I gamed with had 11 players and 2 DMs (one of whom was me), so, there was that.

Let's see now....
It's flat...
Chairs go around it in such fashion that the folks sitting in the chair have their legs under the table...
It gives a nice place to roll dice...
Maps on top of it don't generally fall off...
Hey! We can eat the pizza on it too!

Yep! It's a table all right!

I really can't see doing most of my gaming without one. I have gamed without a table, but more often than not the game lacks focus, so I think I prefer having the table, generally with me hiding behind a screen and smiling....

Every friday for about 8 to 10 hours we play on this:
cyderak on deviantART

If you navigate through this:
cyderak on deviantART you'll find every visual aspect of the Game table. if you read my profile on that site you'll also get a synopsis of how the Computer Touch Screen Game Table works.

It works awesome. Playing around a table is thee only way to play. i can't imagine playing over the internet. I like being around cool people too much.

Definitely a table. Sitting on couches, chairs and balancing everything on the coffee table broke up focus, and at 42, my "sitting on the floor cross legged for 4 hours" days are over....assuming I want to get up again after the game.

I've been out of Mom's home for 20 years. Way back when I was a teen, they got a new dining room set and pitched the old one. I rescued that old table from the curb and put it back in the basement as a D&D table. It's still there. I oughta go get that sometime. Had many excellent games on it.

Also, much later on I got the bright idea to make my own table (6x4) with folding legs. Painted it green, and invited everyone who gamed there to sign it with a Sharpie. Lost the table due to life circumstances, but that would have been a neat journal of D&D games long past.

Anyway...definitely a table gamer here.
