The Draminov Cases - Part 1

[sblock=For the DM]With a smile, Carl thanks the temp for leaving it on his desk, but doesn't let her go without correcting her on the pronunciation of his last name. "It is pronounced just as it is spelled. Unger. It is German, not French. Sounds like hunger without the H. The Unger surname comes from the German "ungarn," meaning someone from Hungary. First found in Bohemia, where the name was closely identified in early medieval times with the feudal society that played a prominent role throughout European history." sensing her lack of interesting in his surname, Carl refrains from continuing with some of the first settlers to the New World. "Thanks again."

Sitting at his desk, Carl proceeds to open up the package. "Interesting, I don't recognize this handwriting," He says to himself as he discards the envelope and takes a look at what is inside.[/sblock]

[sblock=for Jeriah]Without looking away from her computer, Ellie responds, “Yeah, it was a bike messanger with those creepy metal things in his ears that make your ear lobes big and droopy.”

“He didn’t say anything except, ‘I have an envelope for Dr. Shammah,’” she continues after popping her gum. “I signed for it and put it on your desk.”

Looking at the envelope again, you notice it has neither a postmark nor a return address.

Opening it reveals only a letter written on a single sheet of the same parchment-like paper as the envelope. Like the address, it is hand written with the same bold but flowing script. It reads:

March 22, 2007

Dear Dr. Shammah,

It is with the utmost urgency that I am writing to you today, as I am in desperate need of people with your remarkable abilities. I cannot go into many details herewith, but I will say that it is a matter of grave importance and lives may be in danger.

While you will be financially compensated if you chose to participate in this endeavor, I can also offer you something few others can: peace of mind regarding the death of your wife. Yes, I know of that tragic event, and I can unequivocally say that you are correct in your belief about her killer. No matter what others say, you were neither hallucinating nor imagining things; werewolves are real, and you encountered one that night.

Because you were witness to the truth of that horrific event, it marks you as someone who can see the world as it truly is and not as the fantasy in which most exist. It is also the reason I am writing you today.

In closing, let me reiterate the urgency of the situation and ask that you meet with me tonight at 6:00 PM at 101 Federal Street in Boston. Once there, take the elevator to the 31st Floor and present this letter to the receptionist. She will then give you further instructions.

Sincerely,

Sergei V. Draminov

Dear Mr. Knight,

It is with the utmost urgency that I am writing to you today, as I am in desperate need of people with your remarkable abilities. I cannot go into many details herewith, but I will say that it is a matter of grave importance and lives may be in danger.

While you will be financially compensated if you chose to participate in this endeavor, I can also offer you something few others can: peace of mind regarding that night in Alaska. Yes, I know of that event, and I can unequivocally say that it was not imagined nor a hallucination. It happened, and no matter what people may say, it was real.

While it is unfortunate that it cut short your military career, your encounter marks you as someone who can see the entire truth of our world and not the fantasy in which most exist. It is also the reason I am writing you today.

Dear Mr. Spears,

It is with the utmost urgency that I am writing to you today, as I am in desperate need of people with your remarkable abilities. I cannot go into many details herewith, but I will say that it is a matter of grave importance and lives may be in danger.

While you will be financially compensated if you chose to participate in this endeavor, I can also offer you something few others can: resources to continue your studies. Yes, I know of your research and of your mentorship with Gregori Esperov. In fact, your name was given to me by him when I asked if he knew of anyone with extraordinary abilities and potential.

Because you knew of Mr. Esperov and his abilities, it marks you as someone who can see the entire truth of our world and not the fantasy in which most exist. It is also the reason I am writing you today.

Damon grips the letter tightly as he reaches the part about the night in Alaska. Perhaps, he could finally get some answers as to what had went on there. To what caused the nightmares that had been plaguing his sleep. Plus, answers and financial compensation? Damon couldn't think of anything better than that.

6:00 PM? Hmm...he'd have to leave work a bit early so that he could stop by his apartment and pick up a few things. Damon was the cautious sort, and he wanted to be ready for whatever awaited him at this appointment. As he dwelt upon the letter, though, he became more suspicious. If they knew about Alaska, maybe they had finally decided to eliminate him...whatever happened, the ex-marine would be prepared.

-----

Anxiously working through the rest of the day, Damon finally clocks out at 4:30 for the quick ride back home. Once there, he changes into more casual clothing, making sure to tuck the letter into his pocket. He puton his lightweight body armor and pulled a shirt over the top, and then shrugged into a fatigue jacket. He strapped a knife to his ankle, and place his pistol in its concealed holster under his arm. He put his ASP tactical baton into his pocket, and grabbed an extra clip for the pistol.

Then, he hopped back on his bike and made his way to 101 Federal Street.

[sblock=Guardsmith]Spears will immediately begin researching this Draminov and see if he can find anything. Let me know if you need me to make Computers or Research rolls for any of this.

If nothing comes up, Spears goes to 101 Federal Street at around 5:30PM and starts scoping the place out. Spears will be equipped as stated in the RG thread (armed) and looking out for trouble.[/sblock]

[sblock=DM]Louis grins as he reads it "About time I got a break!" He laughs. "Hope these guys aren't talking out their asses.." He folds the letter and carefully stows it, heading out for lunch.. Something special, this is a good day. He heads out Mall-crawling afterwards, flirting some girls, getting a phone number, almost getting into a fight with a biker.. Then around 5 he heads out, hops on his bike, and takes off to his meeting with destiny.

"Ah, here we go.." Louis says, eyeing the secretary as he gets there. "Sorry I'm a bit early, got excited." He pulls out the invite and shows it to her.
If he's not waved in immediately, he makes small talk with the Secretary and/or anyone else who's there, flirting mildly where appropriate.

*OOC*: Louis would have his Cell, Multipurpose tool, A pair of handcuffs (Ya never know), and his knife on him. and btw, though he may not be very charismatic, he is a flirt.*

[sblock=for Gregory]To see what information you can find on Draminov, make a Research check with the Computer Use Synergy since I'm assuming you'll be using the Web. You can take 10 but not 20, as that would 1d4 x 20 hours. Whatever you decide to do, just let me know the result.

BTW, do you like to be called Gregory or Greg?[/sblock]

[sblock=Guardsmith]Hmph'ing as he opens up the mysterious letter, Jeriah begins to read the note, his eyebrow raising at the mention lives in danger, that was after all his specialty. As he moves to the next paragraph however, Jeriah is floored by the letter's contents. Practically falling onto his chair, Jeriah feels as though he as been kicked in the gut hard enough to steal his breath. Emotions that he had tried to drown in his recent work boiled to the forefront of his mind, wrenching a knife in the nearly closed wound of his psyche. His eyes quickly filling up with tears and his breath coming in ragged gasps, Jeriah presses the intercom button for Ellie.

"Please cancel my consultations for this afternoon Ellie. Whomever sent this letter claims to have knowledge of..." his voice cracking slightly, Jeriah takes a deep breath and continues, "...of THAT night. I shall be leaving shortly to go consult with them." As almost an after thought he adds in a faint whisper, "I doubt I shall be returning today."

With that he lets his emotions flow, tears coming as though he were still lying in a pool of his wife's blood. After a time, Jeriah is able to compose himself and gather his things. Nodding to Ellie as he walks out, Jeriah remembers to bring his occult book with him, it won't do to leave like this AND leave a book like this lying around. Driving for a while, thinking about the letter's contents, Jeriah realizes how vicerally hungry he is for confirmation of what he saw. At the very least, someone is humoring him, but that was enough for now.

Finding the address using the ever handy Google Maps on his cell phone, Jeriah arrives just before 6pm. Examine the building with a critical eye before he walks through the doorway, Jeriah silences his doubts and fears about the dubious nature of his current choice. Whoever wrote this knows SOMETHING, they MUST, and with that he enters. He hands the letter, which he copied at the hospital prior to leaving, as his 'invitation' to this meeting...what a day this has been already are his thoughts as he waits on the secretary.[/sblock]

[sblock=Guardsmith]Reading the letter three times over, Carl finally sets it down. The voices were real? And the ghost? Carl continues to run thoughts though his head. Draminov? Never heard that family name before. Must be Russian. I wonder if there are any ties to Dzharimov? This is worth a look.

Working hard the rest of the day, Carl leaves work early thinking he can just pick up where he left off tomorrow morning. He rushes home as fast as possible and changes into his street clothes.

If this man knows about the voices and the ghost, I better be prepared for anything, Carl thinks to himself as he packs his extra box magazine, two notebooks, both pens, multi-purpose tool, steel handcuffs, professional walkie-talkie and his digital camera into his daypack. He places his police issued Glock into his concealable holster underneath his trackjacket, making sure the safety is locked. Along with the glock, Carl conceals his stungun also. Placing his cellphone in his pocket along with his money clip, Carl places his knife into the other pocket.

Slinging his dackpack over his shoulders, Calr heads downtown to meet this Mr. Draminov. Once at the address, Carl admires the building. Seeing the little plaque on the side of the building talking about how it was built in 1988 and has 31 floors, Carl smiles. So, top floor it is. And with that he enters the elevator and takes it to the top floor.[/sblock]
