The Druid makes me chew the furniture

Basically, I want to be able to cast spells on bad guys while flying above the fight as a bird. If I can do that, I'll be happy with this druid.

Prepare to be disappointed. Druids is gonna be a Area effect damage and conditions controller, MAYBE with some utility sneaky/scouty shapeshifting.

The druid has always been one of my favorite classes....I rather expect that whatever bears the moniker "Druid" in 4e will seem nerfed to me (at best).
Hint: I could care less if druids wildshape. I understand that's a likely primary power set. (At least, last I heard.)

I am super-excited about the druid. Obviously, he won't have all his versatility from 3.x, but I hope he'll still be able to do a variety of things.

Heh, I'd be really, really surprised if stopping people from doing exactly that wasn't one of the driving design goals of the 4e druid.

I luv the druid, and I trust then to do an excelent job with the class.

To me, the shapechanger is the quintessential druid. If you go too much caster, then he's going to be a wizard with "green" spells. The whole shapechanging schtick is just too unique to pass up.
That's funny, because to me a druid is about pretty much everything EXCEPT shapechanging.

It's true that shapechanging is a 'unique schtick' - but should it be the Druid's? I don't think so. But maybe I'm just spoiled by other rpg systems (like Ars Magica) and put too much weight on a name.*

*: Did I mention I don't like Barbarian as a class name? Why is this not a Berserker or, well, something ?!

Heh. For me, a druid is a giant freaking bear who occasionally shifts into human form to talk to the little people he allows to follow him around, and every once in a while calls down lightning when his puny foes get too far out of range. I think we're both going to be a little unhappy. :)

Is it Monday yet?

In my observation, the 4e rules don't really focus much on non-combat anything. I'm not sure you should get your hopes up, if that's what you want.

We've seen bards getting their own personal exclusive Rituals, it wouldn't be too weird if Druids could get their own as well, which could/should include (but not be limited to) utilitary shapeshifting.
