The e-publishing support group

I was having this thought, so I thought I'd throw it out there. What would people think of having a support group of sorts for e-publishers? I'm thinking primarily PDF-related products, but any e-products could work. Here's what I'm talking about.

A number of us produce PDFs for online consumption (some charge, some are free). But it might be nice to have other publishers (editors, layout designers, artist, etc.) look at each others products and offer comments, advice, etc.

As an example. I currently product a monthly e-zine. It's not an RPG product, but it's fantasy-related (stories, articles, etc.). We currently have a subscription base over 1000 and each issue is read roughly that many time, and that number grows each month. I've changed the look of the e-zine a couple times, but I'm always looking for ways to make it look better. Who better to help than other publishers? And I would be willing to do the same. My e-zine is currently free, btw.

This is just an initial thought, and I don't know if it would work. Some may be uncomfortable letting others have copies of a product that is to be sold. Others may be fine with it. I wanted to toss out the idea, though.

The goal, of course, would be for all us e-publishers to be able to share tips on layout, editing, publishing tools, marketing, etc.

Yeah, I guess there is the competition aspect. You don't want to help out someone too much if you're directly competing with them. :) There are probably other limitations that would have to be places on a group like this.

It's more a matter of time, actually. I'm already ignoring a promise I made to MTG of the Oerth Journal to edit an article.

And speaking of time, I'm out of it. Gotta run!

Nell.

Good point. Though I wasn't invisioning people actually doing work for others (editing, layout, etc.). Just taking a look and commenting, or sharing thoughts/ideas. That sort of thing. Very non-time-consuming. In theory. :)

Count me in.

It's not so much about competition, but an overall increase in professionality (whatever that means...). For example, if the layout of PDFs in general would be better, the reputation (again, whatever that means...) would increase.
I'd be honored if I could help out inexperienced publishers on that regard - if my time allows it of course ;)

Alright. how do we communicate? Mailing list, private forum board (takes a full-round action to check), or just squat here on EN?
