D&D 5E The Ego Whip

For my Tiamat group, I sort of added the Elemental Weapon spell to all their mundane blades to make for an ersatz magic weapon. Have the Ego Whip do 1d4 slashing + 1d4 psychic damage.

Description: This weapon appears to be made from the hide of a mind flayer. The handle is shaped like an intact mind flayer tentacle.

I'd consider not having it as a +1, it seems slightly irrelevant for the item and 5th edition has done a job of trying to restrict +X items while replacing them with flavour.

I love the idea of an Ego Whip, but consider the following instead:

The Whip deals 1d4 psychic damage, instead of slashing, and once per short rest can perform a mind lash. Save DC 13 or the target loses 3d4 charisma and suffers disadvantage on all attacks, checks and saves for 1d4 rounds. If they are reduced to 0 charisma you receive an ID bonus that grants you advantage on all attacks, checks and saves for the next 1 minute.
