The EN World FREE Monster Sketch Request Thread!

Knightfall

World of Kulan DM
Ok, since the FREE Character Portrait request thread has gone over so well ( a bit hit and miss, but a success, IMO), I figured we should branch out into something else: Monster Sketches.

After all, Tetsubo takes care of most weapon requests in his thread and most character requests end up in the ENWFCPR Thread(TM). I decided to post this new thread based on the following request by Golem2176 which was answered by Korrigan. Go here to see the actual thread and sketch.

Art Request (Half Red Dragon - Tyrannosaurus Rex)
Golem2176 said:
I was wondering if I could request a colorful representation of what said creature would look like. Keep in mind that since a T-Rex is Huge it will have wings because of the template. Thanks!

Korrigan said:
Well, here's a stab at it...no color yet, just pseudo-shading to give an idea of form, but still very much just a rough idea. The wings aren't in, but can be blocked in afterward.

What do you think? Comments, suggestions as to which direction to take it in?

-Mark
aka Korrigan
-----------------------------------------------

So there you have it. Start making your requests and maybe Korrigan, Malessa, Babette, Oliver, or s/LaSH might sketch out one or two. No pressure though people! :D

[EDIT]
Details will be important but try to stay away from posting game stats. Instead, break the creature down by description, habitat, and society, as well as any quirky traits/special abilities.

Remember, like with the other thread, this is going to be a free-for-all thread with little or no guarantee that your monster is going to be sketched by a specific artist. I look at in this way, if the artists get on board with this thread like they did with the other one then it will lead to the sharing of creativity on everyones part.
[/EDIT]

Cheers!

*puts out her begging hat and a sign that says 'i can only draw stick figures'

could anyone please draw a seven headed black dragon and a bipedal white tigress with corespondingly functional owl wings? (think were-tiger with wings)

i'd be happy and grateful and give many huggles to the one who takes up da challenge and da favor...

I'm resurrecting a few monster requests. First is this request for what I believe is two seperate creatures.

7 headed black dragon: Sounds like kirinke wants a half-black dragon hydra.

bipedal white tigress with owl wings: Humanoid female tiger with white fur and owl-like wings. Very interesting creature.

whoot, i requested it again b4 i completely read the post!
*gives major huggles.

ooo for the winged white tiger, here's something to work with. i got it off of the never winter nights vault.

hm could anyone do a color-sketch of a seven headed black dragon? body structure looks sorta like tiamat from Deities and demigods. Though instead of the dull-black scales, this dragon's scales would be like polished hematite.
(It's chaotic good and a fire-breather. The secondary breath weapon is a bluish-white mist that heals the same amount of damage as the fire)

also, could somebody do a color-sketch of a bipedal white tiger with white feathered wings?

Guess I should have just waited until you put in your request again. :p

*gives major huggles again.
yupyup. the dragon i'm envisioning is something like a hydra-headed black dragon. only, it doesn't have the multi-head regeneration thing. here's the concept

Dragonlord
(celestial, fire)

This creature looks like a strange hydra-like dragon with seven heads surmounting a huge, stream-lined body (Body wise, it looks something like Tiamat from Deities and Demigods). It has glistening black scales resembling burnished hematite. A pair of equally huge black wings are half furled around it. As it moves closer, the dragon’s form blurs and between two heart-beats an equally eerie black-dragon with burning gold eyes stares at the party in amusement. A breeze swirls around the area, carrying the scent of new fallen rain and cinnamon. With a start, you realize that the scent is coming from the dragon itself.

Legends say that the dragonlords are the product of a forced mating between the evil-goddess Tiamat and a gold or silver dragon. They combine the basic form of their grandmother and the noble natures of their grandfather. Even a Balor would hesitate to enter combat with a fully enraged dragonlord.

Dragonlords are among the most powerful of the dragon-kin. Like-wise, they are also the most gregarious and people-friendly. In fact, it is not unusual for dragonlords to ‘collect’ villages and countries in much the same way that other dragons collect treasure. And like all dragons, Dragonlords are very possessive of their ‘treasure’ and will defend it with their lives. Woe-betide anything that meddles with a village or country (or whatever) under the protection of such a creature.

Dragonlords abhor evil in all its forms and may enter battle without any provocation against evil beings, especially chromatic dragons. Dragonlords can mate with virtually any creature, but prefer elves, humans and metallic dragons as consorts. They also often ally themselves to elves, with whom they share a mutual defense pact. Dragonlords cannot assume their draconian form until they reach adulthood at around 35 years of age.

Before they reach adulthood, most dragonlords can be mistaken for elves or humans with a strong celestial heritage. Once they reach adulthood (at around 35 years of age), a dragonlord stops aging and for all intents and purposes, they become immortal. At this time, they assume their true form and from there, can assume any form of huge or smaller.

In humanoid form, a dragonlord stands about 6ft-6ft, 5inches tall. They generally appear as half-elves or humans with white hair and gold eyes. Some may chose to appear as Aasimars.

In draconian form, they appear as huge (60-70ft tall) seven headed black dragon’s whose scales resemble polished black hematite.

SPECIAL QUALITIES
Alternate Form: A dragonlord can assume any form it wishes, so long as it doesn’t mimic any particular individual. This spell operates as a polymorph spell on itself, though it can’t regain hit points just because it assumes a different form. They can shift their shape at will. This ability functions as a 20th lvl polymorph self spell. This ability becomes active once the reach adult hood.

Alter Features: As the spell of same name, cast at 20th lvl. This ability becomes active once they reach adulthood.

Regeneration: A dragonlord can regenerate 20 hit points per round, but can never exceed their total hit points. Wounds such as disembowelment, chopping off a limb etc take longer to heal (anywhere from a month to a year depending on the damage, considering that major organs have been destroyed etc).

Immortality: Dragonlords are virtually immortal, but can be killed if beheaded (all seven heads while in hydra-like dragon form, or if in humanoid form, chopping the head off will work just as well)

Blind-Sight: Dragonlords have blind-sight, the extraordinary ability to use a nonvisual sense (or a combination of such senses) to operate effectively without vision. This includes sensitivity to vibrations, acute scent, keen hearing, and echolocation. This ability makes invisibility and concealment (even magical darkness) irrelevant to the dragonlord (though it still can’t see ethereal creatures). This ability operates out to a range of 120ft.

Multi-attack: While in their true form, Dragonlords can use all of their heads to bite. All of their heads can use their breath weapons. All of their heads can cast spells. At the same time.

Breath Weapon: a cone of fire that can reach 100ft, causing 20d10 hit points of damage.

Breath Weapon: a bluish-white cloud that regenerates 10d10 hit points of damage, or deals 10d10 hit points of damage to undead/evil outsiders.

Resistances: 20 cold, electrical and acid. 90% resistant to charm, sleep and compulsion type spells. 30% resistant to all other types of spells. 10 poison/venom.

Life and Energy Drain Attacks: Dragonlords are intimately connected to the positive plane of energy. Because of this, they are 90% immune to life and energy drain attacks. If the attack succeeds, the dragonlord will eventually recover on its own, usually within a year or so.

Immunities: Is immune to all types of disease, including magical. Cannot be turned into an undead creature. Cannot be forced to do anything against their own moral codes. Cannot be turned into a lycanthropic creature. Immune to scarring after they become adult. Immune to petrifaction and ‘death’ type spells. If a death type spell ‘succeeds,’ the dragonlord is knocked into a stasis-like state that can last anywhere from a minute to a day. This state can easily be mistaken for true death. Immune to fire.
Darkvision and low-light vision: 120ft

Travel: Dragonlords can travel freely throughout the Astral, Ethereal and Shadow Planes.
Evasion And Improved Evasion: These extraordinary abilities allow the target of an area attack to leap or twist out of the way.

Frightful presence: A dragonlord exudes a frightful presence similar to that of a dragon. This aura of fear has no effect on their allies.

Invisibility: Dragonlords can become invisible at will.
Cloud-walking: Dragonlords can tread on fog or clouds as though on solid ground. This ability functions continuously, but can be negated at will.

Water-breathing: all dragonlords can breath underwater, even as children.

Languages: Tongues/Comprehend languages always active

ALIGNMENT: any good (usually CG)

HABITAT/SOCIETY: Dragonlords are gregarious, usually preferring elvish society over others and elves are likewise very happy to have them around. They serve as protectors towards whatever town, village, country they 'adopt' in return for general companionship and mutal defense. Of course, they do recieve a fair share of whatever loot they get from stomping on their allies enemies (after all, they are dragons)

Here is a creature I have developed for Urbis. Basically, it's a replacement for mind flayers, since those aren't in the SRD - but I hope I have made these creatures interesting in their own way.

--------------

Daresh
Daresh are a species of aberrations that have been created as scouts by aboleths. They have been seeded on various worlds and formed their own communties deep in the bowels of the earth or below the habitats of other beings - without knowing their ultimate purpose.
Daresh change drastically during their life cycle, and thus are represented by several entries.

Daresh, Larval

Larval daresh look like tiny, slimy grey worms 2 inches in length with a large mouth filled with sharp teeth.

The larval stage of the daresh have only one goal: The acquisition of a host body. To this end they hide near places where larger creatures congregate and try to catch one sleeping so that they can slither into their nose, ears, or mouth and burrow into their brains. Usually, however, adult daresh plant them directly on a captured victim.

Larval daresh are almost helpless against a determined opponent, and accordingly avoid direct combat at all costs. They will always try to catch a potential host unaware.

Brain burrow (Ex): If a larval daresh makes a successful attack against a prone living creature, it slithers into the nose, ear, mouth, or similar orfice and burrows into the target's brain after an additional 1d4 rounds, doing 1 point of damage per round and 1 point of permanent Wisdom and Intelligence damage once it arrives in the brain. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Reflex save to get the daresh off it before it is too late (DC 20 if the target was previously unaware of the Daresh). Once it is within the target's brain, the daresh can cast a suggestion at will against the target (DC 12). The suggestion will usually be: "There is nothing wrong with you apart from a headache, which will go away on its own eventually. The daresh will then start devouring the brain of the target, causing a permanent loss of 1 point of permanent Wisdom and Intelligence damage to the target every six hours. Once either Wisdom or Intelligence reach zero, the target is dead and the daresh enters the juvenile stage of its life.
Aboleth servitor (Ex): The larval daresh automatically fails any saving throws against psionic powers manifested against them by aboleths.
Skills: Larval daresh have a +8 racial bonus on Climb, Hide, Move Silently and Swim checks. A larval daresh can always choose to take 10 on Climb or Swim checks, even if rushed or threatened.

Daresh, Juvenile

Juvenile daresh are daresh that have recently (within the last two years) found a host body and eaten its brain. They have attained complete access to the host's memories and control the body like a puppet. While they are often still weak in this form, they are nonetheless very dangerous because they look just like the host creature and can perfectly imitate it.

Creating a Juvenile Daresh

"Juvenile Daresh" is a template that can be added to any living, corporeal creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

Special Qualities: A juvenile daresh has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities:
- Aboleth servitor (Ex): The juvenile daresh automatically fails any saving throws against psionic powers manifested against them by aboleths.
- Consume memories (Ex): The juvenile daresh gains access to the memories of any creatures whose brains it has eaten. This works as the speak with dead spell, except that there is no limit to the number of questions the daresh can ask and that the target creature does not get a saving throw.

Daresh, Adult

Adult Daresh have fully transformed their host body into something capable of housing their vast intellect. The brain case is visibly swollen to twice its size, which makes it impossible to mistake the daresh for an ordinary member of the host species, and the host's skin is now covered with a disgusting, grey slime. While they now can no longer hide among members of the host creature's species, they often make up for this by developing potent psychic powers, usually gaining levels in the psion (telepath) class.

Daresh are usually considered "Adult" until they have reached an age of approximately one hundred years.

Creating an Adult Daresh

"Adult Daresh" is a template that can be added to any living, corporeal creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

Special Qualities: An adult daresh has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities:

Daresh, Elder

The brain cases of Elder Daresh have swollen so much that their bodies have great difficulties in supporting their weight, and as a result they prefer to spend most of their time sitting, with various braces relieving the pressure on their bodies. They might not be very mobile, but their massive mental powers ensure that they are usually in control of any daresh communities.

Elder daresh usually live to an age of 150 years. At this point, their brain cases burst and reveal 50-100 new larval daresh. Not surprisingly, many elder daresh try to delay this fate, with some even turning to undeath to avoid it.

"Elder Daresh" is a template that can be added to any living, corporeal creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

Special Qualities: An elder daresh has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities:

I've snipped information that only revolves around game stats, but you can see the full writeup here.

Spiders

Shadow Phase Spiders look like an undead, decaying version their cousins; with a dry creaking carapace covered in growths and scars. Their eight eyes are hollow, glow faintly with a soul chilling red light. Like all phase spiders, they have 8 legs, but the front two do not have pads or feet, instead they each have a huge blood-soaked scythe-like blade, measuring nearly 3ft long.

Dream Phase Spiders look little like their cousins- a shiny blue carapace with brilliant nimbus like star shapes dotted across the abdomen covers the creature, and eight eyes peering out from their heads shine like distant stars. As usual they posses the normal eight legs, but the joints are all but invisible.

And if you could take a peek at some Flayed Worms, some ones tampering with Mind flayer tad poles again :o

ahh the possibilties

;)

generally don't draw creatures but i'm intrigued....

apologies now to those who've been waiting to get theirs done...but it has to grab me....

and the number is?????
