The End of Rokugan d20

Rokugan was a fun setting with some great books. Our camapign didn't last too long as the DM lost everyuone characters and that killed the emotion, but it was fun up until then.

So, I just plunked down $140 for the 8 Secrets of the Clans books.
*pushes up his straw hat* Yep.

This means that since January 1st I've spent more on rpg material than I did all of last year combined. Of course this includes Races of Destiny and Complete Adventuer purchased last month. I hope I'm not making a mistake here.
I don't know about the other stuff, but Rokugan d20?

*pushed down his straw hat* Yep.

I just wasn't aware that you couldn't like both........

That's a good point. As for myself, I came to D&D sometime after Kara-Tur and so I know next to nothing about it. I was already playing L5R before D&D 3.0e came along. What I liked about having Rokugan d20 material was getting my players interested in the setting without requiring them to absorb a new system (something they're very reluctant to do). In all honestly, though, I think Rokugan works best independent of other worlds and it would be nice to have an Oriental setting that could be fitted into pre-existing campaigns.

I would like to see Kara-Tur fleshed out so that I can see what all this passionate defense is about, too. The fact that it's connected to Forgotten Realms makes me somewhat less inclined to care (as I've never played or ran a FR campagin). Still, I tend to be more attracted to the older settings (Greyhawk) than the newer ones (Eberron).

Even so, I love the world of Rokugan and I'm very glad there's a 3rd edition on the way. Now that I've hooked my players on the setting, the system isn't such a big deal. Personally, I'll be glad to run L5R the way it was designed.

Yes, I'm dredging up this puppy again. You know you like dredged-up puppies!

Anyway...does anyone out there have the dual-stat Secrets of the Shadowlands book? I've got both of the Shadowlands books from L5R as well as Creatures of Rokugan. Is Secrets of the Shadowlands more of a tool for letting players be Shadowlanders? Does it rehash much of the material from earlier L5R volumes? Or does it stand on it's own and present mostly new material?

Thanks in advance!

I cannot tell you whether it is rehashed, but the book is much like the other secrets books: It gives you lands, npc's and mechanics of several "families" of the shadowlands.
Within it, you find The Daigotsu, the Chuda, the Tsuno, the Gojo, the Bloodspeakers and the Beasts.
