I just wasn't aware that you couldn't like both........
That's a good point. As for myself, I came to D&D sometime after
Kara-Tur and so I know next to nothing about it. I was already playing
L5R before D&D 3.0e came along. What I liked about having Rokugan d20 material was getting my players interested in the setting without requiring them to absorb a new system (something they're very reluctant to do). In all honestly, though, I think
Rokugan works best independent of other worlds and it would be nice to have an Oriental setting that could be fitted into pre-existing campaigns.
I would like to see
Kara-Tur fleshed out so that I can see what all this passionate defense is about, too. The fact that it's connected to
Forgotten Realms makes me somewhat less inclined to care (as I've never played or ran a
FR campagin). Still, I tend to be more attracted to the older settings (
Greyhawk) than the newer ones (
Eberron).
Even so, I love the world of Rokugan and I'm very glad there's a 3rd edition on the way. Now that I've hooked my players on the setting, the system isn't such a big deal. Personally, I'll be glad to run
L5R the way it was designed.
