The Eye of Aragon

So maybe it's old hat to everyone else, but I'd never heard of "The Eye of Aragon" until reading about it in this month's Dragon. Supposedly, it's the worst bit of sci-fi/fantasy prose every written.

So I searched about and found A MST treatment of The Eye of Aragon. Hilariously awful! At least I didn't have to be saved by my large intestine leaping up through my throat to strangle me.

Wait... the Eye of Argon is in January's Dragon?! It's official. Dragon rocks.

And yes, the Eye of Argon is wonderfully awful. I have even played a barbarian named Grignr.

Demiurge out.

I remember this story! I saw a link to it online a couple of years ago, and remember laughing hard at just how awful it was. It's almost as if a Silent Wail started writing sword & sorcery fiction. :D

Eye of Argon Readings

I haven't read the article, but here's the standard game...

Get two printed copies of the Eye of Argon, and a bunch of people.

Give one copy to a "judge", the other to a "contestant".

The object for the contestant is to read the text aloud as written. Breaking out in laughter, stumbling, or pausing ends the contestant's turn. Correcting any spelling, usage or grammar, or otherwise not reading exactly what's on the page ends the turn.

Pass the text around. The person who can read the longest wins. Great fun at geeky parties.
