And while SWSE is a predecessor to the 4e rule set, it would be inappropriate to equate the two. I happened to like what SWSE did and was looking forward to 4e until I realized that it really wasn't following SWSE's work ... at least where I hoped that WotC would.
I never did say it's a predecessor. More like cousins or brethrens since both spawned from the alpha development material.

True. I read more into your statement than intended then. My apologies.
And Rodney Thompson had to keep in mind that he wants to attract SW fans who have never been into RPG yet keep those gamers who were already playing Star Wars d20. He never set out to make a new D&D.

The folks who did D&D 4e have the luxury of observing what works and what won't work when Star Wars Saga came out a year before. Still, they must keep in mind they're making D&D not D&D Saga Edition.
