The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun - your experiences?

My thanks to both DMScott and johnsemlak for those useful tidbits. Combined with the recent Dungeon magazine Greyhawk maps and information from the WotC webpage, I've got several new ideas to incorporate into my Tharizdun inspired campaign.

owned it and loved it but never actually got a chance to run it. I'd love to get into the Conversions download section and get it and Tsojcanth, but alas, it still seems to be problematic downloading things from there.

If you're an evil GM, make it the Codex of the Infinite Planes. See the site below for some neat ideas on connexions between Tharizdun, the Codex, etc.

I loved this module. The time I ran it all the way through, the party was warry after getting a boulder rolled on them, so they sent in the mega-hp fighter alone. This confused the defenders, and party did quite well in the ensuing melee before retreating. The finished off the defenders on the second try (the mountain giant got away) and proceded to explore the complex. Half went down to explore the really creepy part, and the ones who stayed behind to rest were very nearly killed by the (spoiler) old women they had "rescued". They did eventually find most of the cool Tharidun stuff at the bottom, but lost the party magic user to a bad roll on the "fruit"
 


I first played it when I was about 14! My gamemaster dusted it off last year, and my group was stupid enough to let Big T out, even as I warned them. Oh yeah, they are the fruit also. All in all, a good adventure because it starts kind of routine (stop some humanoids) and goes all wrong later.

Thanks for the plug, ironregime! Personally, I wouldn't place the Codex (see my site for a very detailed article on the Codex) in the Temple. I think the Temple book serves better as the source of some lost secret about Tharizdun, or some sort of complex ritual which will allow access to such knowledge (or maybe to temporarily free an aspect of T.).

But as ironregime hints at, towards the bottom of my "Life, the Multiverse and Everything" page (a Grand Unified Theory for all of Dungeons and Dragons' rules, magic, creatures, and cosmologies - accessible from the link above) I very briefly suggest a particularly unique history for Tharizdun. There you will learn about the elder god of Light, Goodness and Sacrifice that was Tharizdun before he became Tharizdun, and what the Great Secret is that Tharizdun knows and that all of the Multiverse has been trying to conceal for eternity. ;-)

I think a "Bwaahhahaahahahahaahaaaa...." is appropriate here. :cool:

I went through it as a player four times, resulting in three PC deaths and one successful run-through. As a GM, I ran it twice with different results: one was a fanatastic success and the other almost became a TPK, with the few survivors fleeing.
