My wife and I will soon be moving to a new apartment, where we *should* have enough room to devote one of the extra rooms more or less completely to gaming. Of course, if we do manage to do so, we need to figure out how (in general terms) we'd like to layout our still-mythical game room. We currently game in our living room, around a large coffee table *just* large enough for a crystal caste megamat. In the past, we've gamed in office conference rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, on the floor, on bean bags, etc. We've used kitchen tables, coffee tables, plate-glass windows on cinder blocks, (and the floor) for gaming surfaces.

Of course, this new room affords us an opportunity to try for the ideal. With that in mind...

What does your game table look like? How do you fit everyone around it? Describe your gaming area, and we'll pick the best parts for ours!

I suggest a secret lair...pref. at the base of a volcano. Perhaps you could get some inept henchmen/women (don't want to leave anyone out ;)) to guard the entrance?

But seriously...I'm always a big fan of tables at which you can game...ie-kitchen table, instead of a lower surface like a coffee table. In a perfect world, a quasi-poker table set-up might be ideal. There is a "playing surface" in the middle for the actual game (in this case the map) and then there is a private space for your own personal game tools (dice, etc).

I've seen that before. It's awesome, but I think the wife is thinking something a bit less...elaborate. ;)
Awww... well, you could try for something like it, but less elaborate.

My current gaming table is actually two folding tables put together with a big mat over it. It serves our needs.

When we game at my place we use the kitchen table or no table. I'm not big on battle maps and minis so a table isn't always needed.

At my friends places we tend to use coffee tables. This has caused lots of coffee table envy as my friend Joe has a really small coffee table. :D
