The Gods

I got to know D&D through Baldur's Gate and I stubled on farious gods there.....Helm, Lavender, Tempus, Loth, Talos.

However, when you look at the player handbook, most of these gods are not there, the seem to be replaced by others. Where did these go. Only Loth seems to have remained and the elven and dwarven gods.

Lumen, the gods in Balder's Gate are the gods of the Forgotten Realms setting, since Balder's Gate is set on that world. You can see a list of those gods in both the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and Powers and Pantheons.

The gods in the Player's Handbook are the gods of the Greyhawk setting, a different world from the Forgotten Realms. To see more on the gods of Greyhawk, check out the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer.

Hope that helps!

Oh,....OK that's good to know. :D

What about vecna. Isn't he supposed to be a lich in the forgotten realms setting as well. Just wondering.

And what setting do most people use? Forgotten realms or Greyhawk. Is Ravenloft one as well?

i think most people homebrew, i.e. make up their own setting and gods and stuff.

i don't know what the most popular settings are. probably FR, followed by greyhawk, followed by scarred lands, followed by kalamar followed by more niche settings like ravenloft.

I suppose. I read the first 7 Drizzt books after that and played NWN. It drawed my interest, but here in Holland there aren't that much people who play it I guess. So I never planned on playing it untill a friend talked to me about it.

I haven't started yet you know. Me, my brother and a friend want to play a campaign for the first time, but we need a DM and preferably one more player.

What I'm doing know is trying to understand as much of the rules as I can. :D Which isn't easy.

I know there are some members of this board who live in the Netherlands, so it's probably just a matter of time before you all find each other.:)

Greyhawk is considered the "default" D&D setting, in that WotC products are set in that world unless otherwise specified. But as Olive said, there are many other choices of campaign setting. When you find a DM, they will usually have a favorite world. If you can't find a DM, and one of you decides to do it, my advice would be to stick with the default for your first campaign. It will be easier on you.

One final note. Lots of people won't run Forgotten Realms campaigns because too many players know too much about the world from reading the novels. This doesn't mean you shouldn't do so if you want to, but you should go into it knowing that it *might* cause problems. Obviously not everyone feels this way, but enough do that I thought I should mention it.

Good luck and good gaming!:)
