The harder, the better - dm

Sounds like a SMART player to me. Those ten foot poles were standard adventurer gear for a reason. If it ain't friendly, you poke it AND blast it to be extra sure. Furniture, statures, cheap paintings...anything that can't be looted, dragged out, and sold. That includes the walls.
It sounds like smart players playing Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on the PS2.

(Or perhaps Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2...)

Can you recall that phrase in the DMG (hope so ;)) saying that a power has to be used in an encounter where a real threat exists and specifying you can't take with you a bag full of rats to smash them and heal an ally?

I'm talking about this kind of bad players, doing this kind of stuff ALL THE TIME....

No, I don't recall the phrase. In fact, I thought I saw the opposite. I thought it says that you can basically use whatever healing surges you want outside of an encounter, as opposed to the single Second Wind ability.

I really dislike rules that fail the bag of rats test anyway. Saying that you get encounter powers after 5 minutes of rest IMO is a far better way of stating it than previous descriptions I saw that rely on wierd concepts.

I don't even like "ally" and "enemy" words in the powers but for the fact that the player probably chooses which targets are which - therefore if an ally secretly infiltrates and enemy organization and finds himself being blasted by radiant energy from a cleric that only damages "enemies" - I would rule that the disguised ally would be treated as an enemy by the spell.

And if my players happen to find a way to stun their adversary for 5 minutes so that they can regain their abilities, then good for them! I think that would be completely in keeping with the spirit of the rules.

The rules need to make sense and be complete and well thought out. 4E might be the breakfast of thespians, but that's no excuse for not thinking through things logically. It also really helps to know the rules, and in the meantime game with people who are helpful.

His PLAYER? I think there are laws against that.

I think there should be laws against a player having a player. If someone were controlling my every word and deed I'd want the DM to kill that person too. Whoa man, what if your PC is really playing you?

I think the thing missing here is that "The rules need to make sense" is exactly what I desire most along with having a party of players who really like playing D&D like the "Game" (I mean RPG in general here) not just as a "game"...there's no need to debate about a specific rule or interpretation of the rules, one of the good thing about rpg is that you play with your friends so that you can drop anything you don't really like and add what is missing in your money.. what I dislike is some attitude from players who think the Game has to be won while is clearly just worth to be played.. but it's just my opinion :)

Bohemian, thanks for your quotation :)
