The Hills Have Eyes II

I give it a solid C. It builds slightly on what was in the previous movie, without the things that made it a good film/remake. There is virtually no character development or backstories provided, no sense of who anyone is. Not even the mutants seem to have any real connection to each other, whereas in the previous film (and much more so in the original) it was obvious they were an extended family. I mean, even less than a movie of this type typically has.

There are killings, there is tension, there are a couple of funny moments ("OK, why are we walking towards the weird sound?"), etc etc. You can write this movie in your sleep based on the trailer you've seen.

The ending is virtually identical as the first one, as well.

Really, I'd avoid it and wait to rent the DVD. With this year crowded with great movies, they should have just held off on this and waited for another script.

Man, I hated the remake. Just a mean-spirited, enervating bit of splatterporn flick. I don't hold a lot of hope out for the sequel.

Why is it that mutants are always EVIL? I know it would suck to be some hideous, freaky mutant, but why do they always have to be murderers and cannibals?

They were the good guys in "Total Recall"

Because killing humans is evil but killing mutants, robots, and nazis is good!

See, I still see mutant humans and Nazis as ... humans... which means it would still be wrong to kill them...

Robots though, nuke them from orbit...
