The funny part is that many of these same people can't get enough of the state-run BBC or Al-Jazeera, which while privately-owned, is funded by the Quatari government, cooperates with censors throughout the incredably unfree Mideast, and serves mostly as a voice for governments and organizations througohut the region that actually admit to being propogandizers. Why do they like these less-free stations: because they like America less, and thus the far left gets to hear more of what they agree with.

How could a channel run by the Government of America's biggest ally be Anti-American?

The BBC isn't state-run, it's state-funded. There's a difference. Currently in the UK, the BBC is hammering away at the Government's credibility, and accusing it of deliberately lying and misleading parliament and the public. A state-run channel wouldn't be able to do this.

And I wouldn't say the BBC is particularly anti-American, either. It's usually impartial, but when people start shooting their star reporter and his crew, it's understandable they'd be pissed.

They're also the Second-least biased news channel we've got. Only Channel 4 beats them (IMO, at least).

I didn't say that the BBC was anti-American, nor is it itself anytihng like as bad as most other government news networks. I appologize if my words could be misconstrued in that fashion.

The BBC IS, however, more critical of the US than US stations are. And they HAVE made mistakes.

Regarding Mideast sentiment, they are far more pro-Arab than Amerrican networks except maybe CNN, which is hard to call American due to its highly international nature. The same bias that recently got the BBC kicked out of Israel is just as present in stories regarding American conflicts with Arab states.

Also, while it is not a government propoganda tool, it still is a bit behind the American system in which the government (with the exception of the NPR) generally stays out of the news business, allowing privite enterprise to do pretty much all of it. The British media is vastly more regulated.

No problem.

To be sure, the BBC have made mistakes, but I doubt if there's a single station that hasn't ever made a mistake in their reporting. And as regards to them being less Pro-US than US stations, well DUH! I mean, I doubt there are American stations that are more pro-British than the British stations!

But that doesn't necessarily mean that they are biased. An impartial station will seem more pro-whatever than a station biased against the whatever. But that doesn't make the impartial station biased (not that I'm saying the BBC isn't Biased, of course. All stations are biased, but some are more biased than others).

Also, while it is not a government propoganda tool, it still is a bit behind the American system in which the government (with the exception of the NPR) generally stays out of the news business, allowing privite enterprise to do pretty much all of it. The British media is vastly more regulated.

But that in itself creates an unfair bias towards Private Enterprise, does it not? ;)
And using the term 'behind' would imply that the American system is better than the British one, which is a matter of debate (or perhaps it is not, but when on an international forum, one has to remember that (sadly) not everyone can be British :p). Britain has State-funded news, Privately-funded news with viewpoints ranging from far-right to far-left, Rupert Murdoch-funded news, and American news channels too (granted, it's only sattelite and cable the last two apply to, but, meh). Not only that, but the BBC even have shows with an American viewpoint on their 24-hour news channel (for example, they show NBC's (or is it ABC?) nightly news, despite this "pro-arab" bais.

Channel-4 news is our most left-wing news; BBC is second. I'd say the BBC is generally somewhat anti-American (and pro-European/EU), but not in a foaming at the mouth sort of way. Al-Jazeera is staffed by the former staff of the BBC's middle-eastern TV service BTW. The BBC is clearly not state-controlled; although it might seem so where its agenda coincides with that of the government, currently the schism is clear.

This guy seems like a guy in my student corridor a while ago; that guy was convinced that CIA and Mossad cooperated to fly the airplanes into the twin towers to make an excuse for going to war with Afghanistan. He was dead serious that this was what had happened. That guys problem was probably the same as the guy you are talking about; he almost never met people and he hardly ever left his room. His view of reallity and human psychology was totally different from the rest of the humanity.

I dont think the Hulk- guy is mentally ill, I just think that he's lonely too much and lives in a theory. But you were right, you wont achieve anything by discussing with him; you have an easier time making a rock fly by discussing with it.

Wow, did I forget to keep an eye on this thread!

As usual, folks, EN World does not host political or religious discussion. So I think we're done with this thread.
