This guy sounds like a paranoid schizophrenic, albeit one of the more lucid varieties. I would not respond to this guy, I would not take one thing he says seriously, and I would certainly not try to reason with him. Seriously, give this fellow a wide berth. This sounds like the kind of person who hunts you down and stalks you because he thinks you must be part of the conspiracy.

And on that very, very, very scary note....

The sad thing is that people like this turn up on different messageboards all the time, ranting about one thing or another.

Anyway, I just hope this doesn't turn into a "need to change my e-mail address" sort of thing.

OTOH, what is he going to see in League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen when it comes out? Are we going to get another "secret, evil government" message?

He asked for my opinion of the film in his last post, but I'm not going to respond. Especially since I really liked it. It wasn't perfect, but its certainly up there with Superman and X-Men in terms of "serious" superhero films.

I loved Hulk and don't need anyone mucking up the good time I had with it. It's too bad that you didn't know what was coming from him.

I think I'm just going to keep quiet and not respond. If he presses me, I'll just quit the group. Even though it irritates me that people will look at that as him "winning" the argument, you can't debate someone who's paranoid.

Well, I would only leave if you felt REALLY uncomfortable. Otherwise, just stay away from that guy. You could also ask that he be banned or something of that type to the owner of the club. This would at least make that person aware of what is going on.

In truth, I just want to respond, "You, sir, are nuts. I really have no idea what you see when you look at the world, but it sure isn't reality. Haven't you noticed that no one else in the entire world is seeing the same things you do in this film? Do a search of the internet, go on I'll wait. Did you find any other rants about 'hidden messages'? No? Funny, huh? You condone, no, actively cheer on the villain of the film. A murderous psychotic who's killed numerous people and experimented on his own son. And you give us grave warnings about the 'evil' of the government and military? Personally, I am thankful that the military is here to protect me from people like you. I think you need psychiatric help."

Man, wouldn't THAT feel good! But no, don't post that.

I agree with many of this guy's points, particularly about the depiction of the military in this film and in the majority of films in the last 20 years. And somewhat about the Reagan thing. And some of the other stuff.

Just so you know that in fact there is someone here who disagrees with you.

I'd suggest something to this effect as a response:

"I was pleased that no soldiers were killed, because I have lost many of my friends fighting in 'Nam, and I go to see these films for escapism, not reality. My friend Bob, who works for the Secret Service, also enjoyed it, and said that it was one of the best films of all time. He shot a man while leaving the cinema as this person commented to a friend that 'Hulk was terrible!' You don't wanna make Bob angry. You won't like him when he's angry!"


Encouragement will only lead to hilarity.

I don't want to get political, but something has irked me.

As one of the 100,000 who protested in Washington, I feel I must attest to the vigor of the modern day anti-war movement. We exist, but the media does seem to ignore us.

Ok so I haven't seen The Hulk yet but this is a Comic Book movie here why would you expect soldiers to die? You know maybe they just didn't want a NC-17 rating. As far as anything pro military, doesn't the Hulk basically punk out the miltary repeatedly? Like I said I didn't see the movie but based on the comics, the cartoons and the previews I have never seen all that much pro military there, of course then again why would our government waste money trying to influence a movie made about a 60's comic book by a Hong Kong director? Don't they have better things to do? Don't they have more effective things to do (like influence T3 as a propaganda film )? I haven't heard many kids comming out of the theater wanting to be a tank commander because of the movie or anything, so I am wondering just what the point of this propaganda was supposed to be, for kids to wish they could be exposed to gamma rays?

The best way to deal with this kind of thing is to ignore it, the worst thing to do is to actually try to discuss it rationally with the person. If you want to have fun with it you can send the guy links to the cubist movement and the space ark site or point out to him that the govenrment is monitoring his post and will probably be paying him a visit in the near future for blowing the whistle on their Hulk propaganda.
