The Hulk trailer

you're thinking of Kris Kristofferson, i believe.

the guy in the trailer is Banner's father, played by Nick Nolte

How good the FX does not matter that much as rather what the FX are being used for (Hulk swinging tanks, which is a classic).

Kinda like how horribly bad the FX were in the Mummy movies, but used exceptionally. Same goes for Eight Legged Freaks.

For the reverse (good FX used badly), take Godzilla (the US scandal-of-a-film) as an example. Godzilla didn't to anything really that exciting in all the movie (just kinda ran around and screamed) but it's incredibly good FX.

You make some very good points! Never thought about FX that way. Nice. :)

Plus, you know, you have to be psyched about purple pants!

Thanks, and purple pants rock!

As much as I love CGI, I must say that it's usually used really badly.
It often looks great, but devoid of all feeling or excitment.
Stop motion effects and puppets in the days of old, tend to feel better,
mostly because (I think) it goes so much work and money into those things,
that when you're gonna do something like that, it just better be good.

Still, I'll go for good CGI over stop motion everyday (I dunno about the puppets, I kinda like 'em).

Let's see now...

Blade
The X-Men
Spider-Man
Daredevil
The Hulk

Who's gonna be next? Maybe a redone version of Captain America (anything would be better than that old movie), since patriotism is on the rise lately? Or maybe Iron Man? What Marvel character will hit the silver screen next, true believers?

Fantastic Four is in the mix. I think they would be the next Marvel "big thing." Would have to have a large budget, tho.

Isn't there an unreleased film version of the Fantastic Four that stars David Hyde Pierce (Niles in Frazier) as Johnny Storm? Or is this just one of those internet myths...

Anyway lets speculate on the rest of the casting:

Mr Fantastic: Macaualy Culkin

Invisible Girl: Divine

The Thing: Chris Farley

:D

There was a Fantastic Four movie, but not starring any of those folks. It was a 'B' movie by Roger Corman, and never released (though it wasn't totally horrible, it was pretty bad). It didn't star any name actors (which wasn't a problem, mind you), and they gave it their level best, but terrible writing and worse direction made it something you wouldn't want to remember.
