The Hunt For Gollum is an unofficial not for profit short film by a group of enthusiast filmmakers. As a Lord of the Rings Fan Film, we are not affiliated with the Tolkien Estate or New Line Cinema and are producing this project as an entirely non commercial film. As with other fan films we are making this purely for the enjoyment of the material and the experience of making a high quality low budget film.

I was about to start a thread to let people know about this, having just read an article on bbc.co.uk in the news and entertainment section.

Release day is 3rd May 2009 and run time is approximately 40 minutes. From the two teaser trailers the quality looks high.

Well, they supposedly have the permission of Tolkien enterprises, and they apparently wrote the story themselves based on a few passages from Unfinished Tales, so I don't think New Line or Jackson have any basis for a suit.

But then, who knows in how these things go in the entertainment industry.

I would think that the fact they aren't profitting off of it would give them some leeway as well.

This was pretty good, actually. It wasn't great cinema, but it kept my attn and the attn of my children. I enjoyed it.

I quite liked it. I'd be happy to own that I DVD. I don't suppose that's very likely though.
