Well, lots of what we get in the theaters these days isn't "great cinema" either.
Honestly, I'm very impressed. I've paid to see movies of lower quality than this was. I know it's not likely to happen, but count me among those who'd buy a DVD if it were available. I hate watching stuff on the computer.
Someone ought to purchase it, clean it up a bit, and have it as an extra on the Hobbit DVD whenever it is finally released. It would make an excellent extra or Easter egg.
Amateur comes from the Latin "amare" "to love", someone who does something for the love of it (i.e. as opposed to getting paid for it).
No, HFG is not 100% up to the level of Peter Jackson's films ... but it is still amazing. The lighting, the pacing, the costumes, all very nicely done. Aragorn was quite good. I am happy I watched it and I applaud the efforst put into this.
Probably one of the best fan films I've seen. The sound sounded in some places like an ADR studio, but the look and feel was right on the money. The Aragorn was a fair resemblance to Viggo.
My one frustration was with the fight sequences. Edited together pretty well, but I wish fan filmmakers in general would get some trained stage and screen fighters in there to help put some polish to the fights.
Finally saw this in its entirety. It was decent, but I wish the filmmakers had not tried to emulate so closely Peter Jackson's trilogy. It made comparisons inevitable. But for a fan film, it was definitely at the top of its class, even though it possessed no voice of its own.
