The-Imp-formerly-known-as....

-Warlord-

First Post
Using the rules from "Demonology: the Dark Road", the summoner in my party has aquired an imp to be permanently bound in his service.

Now to make things fun, I decided this imp was a great demon before, but because of some mistake (the imp calls it "the paladin incident"), he is serving a few centuries as an imp as punishment.

As an imp he has had a few masters, mostly demonlords and powerfull mages.....and now all of a sudden he finds himself bound to a lowly 4th level caster....permanently, or at least till death do them part.

I haven't decided whether the imp will decide to make "till death do them part" sooner rather then later, or that he will decide that this "kid" can be molded into a powerfull wizard, whose soul can to exchanged for a full pardon and return to great demon-status.

I'm looking for suggestions on both, using whatever knowledge a great demon gone imp could use.

I like the corruption idea.

Some ideas:

He could offer to teach the wizard spells (ones with the evil or vile descriptor, of course).

He could tell the party of great treasure- that just happens to involve releasing some other imprisioned demon.

He has heard rumors of a king whose lands are being terrorized by bandits. In reality, the king is a tyrant- and the bandits are freedom fighters.. but will the party realize that before or after slaying them?

He knows of a pool that can enchant items with magic (possesses them with demons).

Good luck

See, when I was a deamonload I knew of this wonderful spell book...

Have the imp feed informations that will help him out, using the player to get something.

Direct tie-in to the 'Paladin Incident'

The Imp was formely a Martial of the Armys of Hell who lead a crack unit of demonic commandos. Everyone of those Commandoes is now imprisoned in a magical crystal which has been shattered and the shards scattered across the world.

The Imp now uses the Summoner to recover the shards and recraft the crystal. The Imp will then use the Crystal in a wonderous talisman that allows him to absorb the 'souls' & powers of the Demon Commandoes and so return to full Demonlordship...

Well, first does the mortal wizard know about the imp's former history?

He might corrupt the wizard and help the mortal attain ever increasing levels of power in order to acquire some artifact that will grant the imp ultimate power to get revenge on those who betrayed and mocked him.

Or perhaps in the spellbook he gives to the wizard, there is a world-shattering spell that could destroy all of demon-kind forever, and through this the imp could appear benevolent and sympathetic to the plight of mankind. The only problem is that the imp secretly knows that he will gain all of the power from the destroyed demons and devils.

The demons constant whining about being bonded to a lowly wizard and talking about how much better it was under his former, way more powerfull, masters....the player knows.

The demon seeking revenge on all demons would be a bit of a problem, but him seeking revenge against the high-up that ruled he should be an imp for a few hundred years could happen.
Or revenge against the paladins, although they probably died in the centuries after the incident, they could have been turned into eladrins as a reward.

Some more backstory...the players wouldn't have any trouble releasing more demons or using dark magic. They are all evil and part of a black academy that serves as the elite of a great demon army that has conquered a whole country, enslaving it's population and destroying it's churches.
Next step is for the demon-army to take on the lands in the north: Nebrecht, a state ruled by paladins and guardians of a legendary spear, Sah-o-Tor, a kingdom of dwarves and Eldarran, a forest of elves......oh yeah...and the Mootlands, where the halflings roam.

The Imp could definatly guide the player to some magic or knowledge that will make him more powerfull, increasing the worth of his soul.

Then this is the Imp's ticket to Devilhood (Imps are Devils, not Demons).

This Wizard has potential. They are working to bring forth the infernal army? Good. Under the Imp's tutalage, this mage could be very influential to the balance, and the imp could groom him to be a grand master, a magical commander of the human workings.

All for him helping his fellow fiends, and no doubt, they'll 'promote' him for having helped them accomplish this.

Perhaps the Paladins of this place are the decendents of the ones who caused the Paladin incident. Or, how about this:

The Paladin who caused the Incident is in hybernation. Magical Stasis that prophecy says he shall awaken when he is needed again. The Imp could find out where the the paladin slumbers, and send the party to kill the sleeping body, so the paladin isn't a problem in the future.

Interesting ideas.

Another is the slow poisoning of the mind of wizard, making the wizard believe in half truths the imp is telling.

The imp's purpose is to become the master and the wizard his slave. Once a suitable situation happens where there wizard does something that could offend the powers that be the imp can go and incriminate the wizard getting rid of him, all the while pretending to be his friend.

The wizard should gain a high place and then start to distrust the rest of his peers and the attempt a bloody coup. If it works the wizard gets more power and the Imp does too. If it fails the Imp placates those in power by delivering the wizards head.
