Jeovanna

Jeovanna- The Lair

Bile rose in the back of Jeovanna's throat at the sight of the giant demon.

Its bulbous eyes passed right over them, before landing on the glowing light person. It's back was to them- or at least its side- and that was enough. It had to die. Everything down here... had to die.

As soon as the demon was distracted, she would charge straight at it- right on the heels of Otiroth's strange mystical attack. It hadn't looked like the others, but then, now was a moment to be distracted, she was sure.

Her sword, that reliable old metal, it may have lacked the beauty of Dain's longsword or the mysterious abilities of their magical companions... but it tended to do its job just fine!

Carthum One-Tusk: The Lair

By Suru! This one was even bigger! And was that the mound? There could be their hostage... or their next foe. Suru demanded action!

While the others moved in to the attack, Carthum circled around- he intended to join the others in the direct attack, trusting that his sister would this time keep herself and Otiroth safe, but he was too far back to immediately make it into the fray.

No matter.

"Suru! Wake your radiance, and purge this evil!" He banged his mace against his shield once more, and a pulse of light would ripple outwards from it, in a circle around him- though still close enough to strike the demon.

Suru's light was more discerning than Otiroth's flames; it would only harm his enemies! It may have only seemed a warm light to his strange crew. But to the demon... perhaps it was a bit more scathing.

<Channel divinity: Radiance of the Dawn. Roll= 7 radiant damage to any hostile creature within 30 feet. Half on a constitution save.>
<Light cantrip has a range of 1 hour; Carthum may make it a habit from now on to cast it on his shield whenever it runs out, to help his human allies.>

Dain - the lair

Dain squinted at the sight of the mound, bringing his sword to bear. As the torchlight reflected off the dark blade, illuminating the design upon it, he heard the words of Essithea again. *Bleed for me.*

Something happened. Maybe it was the latent mystic power of the mine or maybe it was a goddess, but either way Cain's blade seemed to have a purpose driving it.

"Hear my plea. Accept my oath." The words were hissed whispers in the gloom. He attacked.

Annit 14
Dain 13
Otiroth 11
Jeovanna 6
Metea 2

With surprise on your side, the horrible underground foe cops a battering in a matter of seconds! Magic darts painfully penetrate it's back, a sword tears a searing bloody slash between shoulder blades and the heat of Suru’s light burns both hair and skin alike.

The mound too, is no longer a pile of waste and unknown potential. Dain’s sword carves right through it! For a moment, the top section wobbles, before tumbling to the ground like a minor landslide. Bones, moss, gravel, dirt and a few shiny trinkets collapse and spill forth around Jeovanna and Dain’s feet. Shockingly, two small bodies slide and roll to the ground too, flopping like sacks of meat upon the earth. Pale and still, they look to be dwarven, though they no longer appear pot-bellied or full of a demi-human’s joyfulness. They are mostly skin and bone now, within tattered leathers that once weren’t such a loose fit. Their eyes are locked open, blankly staring now at the cavern’s distant ceiling.

The creature squeals in shock, and then growls in fiery anger as it turns. Huge yellow eyes lock upon Dain and Jeovanna, it's jaw opening wide in nothing but pure aggression. Perhaps, you’d think the creature to look even more terrifying in the strong light cast within this room, but you have a feeling that ample illumination has given you the upper hand.

<Start round one, Carthum is up! It is hard to tell if there is any life left in the two bodies or if Dain has injured either of them yet. There is a space left for one more to enter melee, or use as an opening to cast spells into the combat. Monster passed the con save for half damage.>

Carthum One-Tusk: The Lair

Carthum moved in. While he would have liked to tend to the two limp bodies on the ground, before they could deal with the mound, they had to destroy the accursed demon!

But the sight of such suffering... it infuriated him. The half-orc shoved his glowing shield at the demon as it turned towards Jeovanna and Dain, and went to clonk it quite good over the head with his mace.

"Your atrocities end this day, vermin! Face Suru's light! Parsulu!"

Another painful blow lands on the creature before it can react, seemingly startled by the priest’s enlightened shield! It glares at Dain then, apparently angered at the violation of it's tower of favorite things. A pincer lashes out at him, but misses amidst the confusion of close combat.

Young Annit gulps as the frenzy of the fight begins, and seeing that there is no space for her among the chaos, steps slowly to the left, hoping to remain behind Metea’s illusion yet keep an eye on the other exit. An arrow is nocked, and she keeps aim on the slither of darkness within the distant wall… just in case.

Dain - The Lair

Blood and ooze flew from the creature as Dain's blade cleaved through the foul filth that was the creature. He was only dimly aware of the trinkets, and even the gaunt figures, that rolled from its mass. He was focused on one thing and that was to kill his mark. His sword was a hawk in his hand, barely constrained as it was spun around for a second strike.

She is with me! I can taste her on my lips!

Vile pincers snatched out at him and he grunted out a breath as they found only air.

Deep within this hole. Deep within this pit. Deep within this catacomb. She is still with me!

Images of a silhouetted throne, its shape outlined against a tall window filled with blinding light, flew through his mind. Voices roared in his head, their voices like thunder.

His comrades would know his mettle. Aye, they would know his strength. He may have no memory, but he had honor enough!

Darting down like a falcon upon its prey, talons outstretched and screeching with bloodlust, his sword trailed misery behind it.

Another massive blow lands upon the ugly beast! It lefts forth a most agonizing squeal, so loud and horrible that it pierces your ears and leaves them ringing. The young explorers are doing so well though, and surely morale must be high. Then, to Annit's rear come the early sounds of familiar crackling. The air moves in thin dark tendrils as one of the smaller variety of filthy brutes begins to take form, near the back of cavern. The screams of the leader has called all who remain to attention. Protect the treasures! Cleanse this filthy light from our home! Make them pay!

<Big Critter 1 is at -37hp. It looks severely wounded but you'd not underestimate how much fight is left in it. Small Critter 2 has just arrived on the scene (purple dot), and will act on Big Critter's initiative next round.>

Otiroth: The Lair

There are certain sounds that the human body becomes attuned to, for better or worse. Ones that brought any soul to attention. The sound of that teleportation has... become one of them.

Otiroth's attention snapped towards the crackling sound, and he grimaced. Another!

Despite being somewhat separated from the others, Otiroth did not yet feel all that exposed. Metea's illusion still covered him. He would flash another bolt of fire towards the newly arrived creature- which was entirely too close to Metea for his liking- before moving closer towards Metea.

<Spellcasting: firebolt. 16 to hit, 7 damage>

Jeovanna: The Lair

If anything, the sound of another demon crackle got Jeovanna's blood up even more.

She could not afford to worry about the pale figures- they were not moving, so they were not a threat. Deal with the threat.

The demon looked good with a slash upon its back! She'd give it a partner across its belly!
