A Hatred of Bats

Now this, is a moving Target if ever there was one. Jeovanna's sword swings into the dark winged army, but almost like reflex they scatter, leaving her to only carve thin air. Then they reconverge, bursting in, but not without fatalities.

Otiroth's cone of powerful heated breath flys forth, frying a handful of the animals outright! Singed bodies of fur and wing drop to the group totally combusted.

But it is not enough! The army is still strong! Angered at their fallen, they descend on the sorceror and barbarian with sharp little claws and biting teeth.

Jeovanna somehow manages to fend them off. Otiroth however, is blanketed in them, screeching and biting at him like a cloud of nails.

<Attack Jeo = 11 (miss) Oti = 18 (hit for 4hp damage).

Round 2
Jeovanna: 22
Otiroth: 18 (-4hp)
Carthum: 18
Bat swarm: 13 (-4hp)
Metea: 6
Dain & Annit: DC12 perception check please.>

Jeovanna

Jeovanna: A Hatred of Bats

Jeovanna would drop her sword, though how intentional that may or may not have been was hard to say.

Damned flying rats!

She'd clap her hands together with great force, to mash a few of the miserable creatures between her hands.

<To hit- 12. Unarmed strike, so 1+strength modifier- 5 damage>

Otiroth

First Post
Otiroth: A hatred of bats

"Gyah! Get off!" Otiroth would manage to lob his next firebolt directly into the ceiling of the cavern, showing it once and for all who was boss.

He was being bitten by bats. How could anyone blame him for flailing wildly OR missing?

<Spellcasting: firebolt, miss>

Carthum One-Tusk: A Hatred of Bats

The shouting would wake Carthum up, not that he had done much more than fall into a deep meditation, anyway.

He'd spring up, and without much in the way of ability to parse the chaos, would storm over towards Otiroth. It was more his shield than his mace that he would use- the big flat wooden shield being perfect to mash some of the nipping creatures against the lair's floor with. Of course, he nearly got his nostrils singed for his trouble. "Calm down, you great ponce!" Hey, Otiroth was getting bitten by bats. He probably wouldn't notice. "It's just a few bats!"

Jeovanna was taking a much more hand's on approach- which Carthum definitely noticed, and fully appreciated!

<To hit: 16. Damage 6>

A Hatred of Bats

The barbarian's direct approach seems to work, though less fall pulverized to the ground than anticipated. Resistant buggers! They move so fast.

Carthum's attempt at a shield bash leaves a few batty remains stuck to it, which will probably require scraping off later. Sadly, he could have sworn more of them were under the shield than are now dead and flattened.

The mass joins then, growing into one fluttering cloud of solidarity. If it breathes, it is at risk… Of the six lair available targets it is Carthum who shall feel their wrath! Like one dark beast they descend on the priest, teaching him what “just bats” are capable of. Exposed skin is subjected to thrashing claws and biting mouths a plenty.

<By now it is apparent that they have some kind of resistance to certain forms of damage. Carthum selected at random as target. 17 to hit, 4hp damage. Attacking the cloud of bats is at disadvantage now, if you want to not hit the priest in the process.>

Metea

First Post
Metea: A hatred of bats

Metea really wished she were still asleep...

Eldritch energy crackles at her fingertips and lances into the swarm.

Is this a nightmare?

She'd pull her blanket up around her delicate skin. She doesn't want to be bit, real or nightmare!

<Spellcasting- eldritch blast. 13 to hit, 10 damage>

Round 3
Jeovanna: 22
Otiroth: 18 (-4hp)
Carthum: 18 (-4hp)
Annit: 15
Bat swarm: 13 (-19hp)
Metea: 6
Dain: ?

Now that, was effective! Metea's torturing energy crackles and rebounds through the horde of annoying beasties, many of their membership dropping dead in the process. Numbers reduced, the mass seems to have lost roughly half its size, though it still surrounds the priest with clickity clicking annoyance.

Jeovanna: A Hatred of Bats

Were these creatures corrupted, like the demons? Even a starving wolf pack would retreat if it lost too many against a predator. These bats remained.

Jeovanna did not particularly want to swing her sword in the priest's direction- it would have taken too long to retrieve it, anyhow. She'd charge over, swiping at the miserable creatures. It might not have been amazingly productive but she didn't have many other options!

<To hit- 14. Unarmed damage- 5>

Carthum One-Tusk: A Hatred of Bats

Carthum grunts in irritation, but he has felt far worse, and recently, as well.

Suru has already punished him for using magic frivolously; his shield had been plenty effective against the swarm.

<24 to hit, 8 damage>
