The Keith Baker *Kudos* Thread- No trolls.

Congrats, Keith.

Hopefully, some time before next year's Gen Con (or even AT next year's Gen Con) we will get to read your one page blurb that got your foot in the door to the PRIZE. I am as interested in the process of this contest as I am in the world itself.

Until then, the trolls will troll and the rest will wait patiently.

This new setting might be early earth history. Take a look at the jpeg from the posting at gamingreport.com and this early shot of Pangea...before the continents moved. Check out the top continent of Pangea and compare to the drawn map.

The idea is pretty obvious... well, at least I've had the idea once. Nevertheless, it's cool, and the way Keith seems to handle this (with the whole bunch of other innovation) is (more than) fine by me.

Time will tell. Expectations are high, though. But I've got faith ;)

There's supposed to be somethine about it in the next issue of Dragon, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just be the same info that was given at GenCon however.

Thought that with all the dinosaurs in it that it might be hinting that this all takes place in our past. Therefore, many players may more readily buy into it. (Sort of like Tolkien and Robert E. Howard did with their respective worlds.) What do you think?

Gary

That is a compelling idea. Good eye, there!

When's the next issue of Dragon out? I can't wait to see more. If Gary's right, remember that you heard it here first!

I'm going to have to do some real strategic planehopping to include Morningstar, The Alfar Tower (Gary's world), and Eberron in the same campaign, but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm quite excited about this -- it seems all the innovation these days is coming out of studios other than WotC. Some of the more out-there TSR settings didn't grab me as much as others, but I think we need a return of settings that are as challenging and innovative as Planescape, or Dark Sun, or yes, even Spelljammer. :)

Spelljammer rocked. I'm convinced that half the people that condemned it as "stoopid" didn't realize that a good chunk of it - crystal spheres, phlogiston, and the like - was actually drawn from real beliefs that existed at one time or another in our world.

(I get the same sort of feeling from the reaction to this setting.)

Anyway, the preview art looked incredible, but then I've always been a sucker for those travelogue/sketchbook things.

I think my subscription copy usually gets here between 8th and the 12th of any given month, perhaps sometimes a little earlier. Between 12:00 and 1:00 PM CDT.

I'm sure there'll be a rush to post the first details.

I also replied in the other thread about how cool I thought the setting sounded and since this is here for just this reason, let me too say congrats Kieth Baker! I like Forgotten Realms and I play in an FR campaign, and I really hope I dont get yelled at too much for saying this, but I don't think it is all it's cracked up to be, and definitely not worth clinging to at the expense of originality. Yes there are alot of NPCs and books, which is why I think it calls itself the most detailed fantasy setting ever, but beyond that it still is stock , nd I am excited to have a setting explore something beyond that. So way to go Kieth! Oh yeah! I almost forgot about the dinos! For some reason this seems to be a real big deal for alot of people, but I really dont see how they are different from including any other type of beast in your campaign. I think its a cool idea to have a small part of the world dino-dependant. Kieth has said that they are not the central theme of the setting, so I'm happy. I just don't know how I am gonna wait a year to get this. Hopefully there will be more previews in the near future

Thanks

Hey folks -

I said it in the longer thread, but thanks again for the positive thoughts. Only the smallest sliver of the world has been revealed, so I'm still confident that some of the naysayers may yet be won over (of course, there's an equal chance for some of the people who have been positive so far to decide they hate it - again, little information out so far).

JeffB & Eric - You're both absolutely right. I expect to be criticized, and rudeness is an increasing (if unfortunate) part of daily life. I was probably a little too sharp in my response on GamingReport, but things like "It's all a big conspiracy because he's related to Rich Baker!" have a way of getting under the skin. Once enough information is out there, I'd like to hear people's criticisms - but a well-reasoned argument is always more interesting and useful than "Eberron $UX0R5!" And I'd certainly like to share any insights I can, as I can.

On that note, I was being misleading with *my* earlier comment about dinosaurs (that is, that they only appear in a small country). There is a place in the world where you have overlap between humanoids and dinosaurs, as seen in the picture of the halfling clawfoot riders. This is not necessarily the only place that dinosaurs appear, but those of you who have the "Journeys across Eberron" pamphlet will note that they don't appear anywhere else on Thurvarch's travels. It's not "Wide World o' Dinosaurs", and if you really hate dinosaurs, you can certainly steer clear of them. And now I'd better go back to lurking before I say something that gets me in trouble...

Anyhow, thanks. And congratulations again on Morningstar, RS -- I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

-Keith
