the lake of steam [fr] - my players keep out

I have recently started a bi-monthly game centered on the Lake of Steam. It is very isolated from the main campaign areas (which are undergoing serious revision - tee hee).

Here's the skinny...

The Banites under Teldorn Darkhope have crushed the city of Mintar. The invaders were quick to capitalize on the flood of refugees, granting commissions and virtual amnesty to any highwaymen that wanted to harass them.

The Banites not only wanted to create a humanitarian crisis in Saelmur, but hoped that the flood of reufgees would clog the roads and prevent any relief forces from closing with their troops.

Saelmur has been reduced to a shantytown and the refugee problem has the city approaching plague conditions. The Banites have been consolidating their forces and pushing away from Saelmur.

The PCs are currently involved in a large plot device. They have decimated a group of Bane-sponsored bandits and taken their dilapidated keep for their own. Inside the keep, they find a secret chamber with a staircase leading into the mountain. Turns out this was a hidden Bhaalist Abbey at one time and they eventually come upon an altar room, where the skeletons of Bhaal's once-faithful still lie in their death poses from the Time of Troubles.

After much searching, they find a blackened human skin tome. On the cured human skin pages are a set of nearly indecipherable cryptograms. The PCs break the code and find it holds the details of dozens of contract killings performed by the temple - including the principals involved.

Saelmur is listed fairly prominently...
