Ren takes a steps forward into the room, automatically ducking his head as he goes through the doorway and making sure he remains interposed between the men and Nissa. He narrows his eyes at Pipluk. "Our business is just that, friend. We have as little reason to trust you. Less, maybe, given the way you were yelling through that door."

He gestures towards the door with the hand holding his warhammer and cocks his head to one side. "What was that all about, anyway?"

"A denizen of the Lichway," says Pipluk. "We met him in the room out there," he points to the room you have just come from. "We thought he might have useful information, but Veneman can be... less than subtle." Veneman grunts and shrugs. "Unless, as I said, he belongs to you. Are you missing a small wizard?"

"We're here to recover something for the temple. We have everyone accounted for. If you met any wizards, they are either dead and running around. Or survivors from previous groups stranded here. Maybe you're not aware of the fact, but no one returns from here. I may have exaggerated the threat of becoming undead yourself, but the danger is real. We have priests to keep us from the unholy. We have mages to keep arcane locks from stopping us. And solid swords to keep THEM safe. What do you have? And how do you plan on leaving here?

I think you're lying and you're just covering while Black Oddo and the rest of your group circle around us. Priestess, keep an eye backwards."

Zanword changes from trying to persuade them to peacefully go to goading them into defense or anger in hope of finding out something more.

OOC: Note that I name no names, just to make it harder for them to find us later in the city :) Although Zanword would probably be recognized easily if they think about it.

"Sadly," says Pipluk, "we are not as fortunate as you in having so many friends. I don't know who this Dark Oddo is, unless perhaps you mean the small wizard." The elf's shoulders sag slightly as he sighs, and turns to his companions. "It seems we have made a mistake in coming here, my friends," he says to them, and the turns back to Zanword. "You promised us safe passage out of here. Do you stand by that? Will your large friend there," a nod towards Ren, "let us past?"

Meanwhile at the back of the group Nissa looks and listens carefully. Over the ever-present sound of the rustling breeze, she can just about hear something from the room opposite. A very faint noise. Perhaps rats?

"Do you have a way of going away? If not, we could agree on you guarding my boat. It will be safer then inside, you can earn honest day wage and I'll even throw extra gold for each confirmed kill of something attacking the ship if we get the thing temple wants.

Reasonable?"

OOC: This assumes that simple guard duty for a day is something I can afford :)

Javier watched the group suspiciously, still chewing his bit of leather. He didn't like these people, but that was nothing new. Javier was the sort who didn't like most people. Still, if the fool Zanward wanted to pay them, that was his business.

Just so long as it didn't come out of Javier's cut.

Chew, chew, chew.

The big man didn't give voice to any of his complaints, but he watched and listened all the same. Closer to the back, he might hear what Nissa had, too.

Wandering over to where the gnome priestess is standing, Javier notes that she seems to be listening intently to something, so he does so too. Over the ever-present sound of the whispering wind, it does sound like there are tiny scuffs and rustles from behind the door. Like something trying to be quiet and not quite succeeding.
