The Look of Tieflings

brainstorm said:
I'm a bit confused on the look of tieflings. I got the Races and Classes preview book and the text describes tieflings as having short horns on their heads, tails, but looking mostly human from afar. Yet, if you look at the illustrations, their horns are very pronounced. Also, looking at the tiefling cleric and rogue miniatures from Desert of Desolation, both look like the description in the text, not the illustrations. So, which is it? Has anyone read anything from WotC that clarifies which way it will go?
I noticed this, too. I was assuming that when Bruce Cordell wrote that in R&C, he hadn't seen the illustrations of 4e tieflings (or their look hadn't been decided) yet. Since the cover of the PHB has the big tail, big horns version, that is probably what they're going with.

I plan to get R&C today, so I will tell you all my educated opionon on it later, but from what I have heard, the tails and horns grow as the chracters get stronger.

And here I thought those emails about enlarging members were bogus spam.

And those TAILS are gonna need some HIPS, yo.

Given that, I guess our tieflings should look more like dwarves. ;)
oooh yes! Give tiefling women the hips they would need to support those tails!

Like the one in the 3e MM. ;)

Yow. I usually like WAR's stuff but that... is not his best work.

Based on the polls I have seen, this is agreed upon by most.

I'm going with the text and my old Planescape art (sans hooves, usually). I think they should appear human from fairly close. Human enough that a cloak or mask will hide the differences. The only time I see the horns getting big or the hooves making an appearance is if there are racial Tiefling Paths or Destinies.

So yes, like the bad guy from Legend. :)

Merry Christmas, everyone.

If halflings can look the way they do and still have the Str they do, tieflings shouldn't be a problem.
