West Ridge is a part of Chicago with a long history of wealth. Its not the wealthiest section of the metropolitan area, but its historic mansions, and multi-ethnic neighborhoods, give the area an air of quiet diversity and old money, that seems a great contrast to the grinding modernity of much of Chicago-land. Yet on this night, that quiet is shattered by the sounds of gunfire, and explosions. Flames lick from the windows of the historic Berenson House, one of the mansions that line Lunt Avenue. A dark van barrels out the gate of the mansion's wrought iron fence, and roars off into the darkness. Soon after, emergency vehicles appear, sirens and lights flashing. Parts of the historic mansion are burned, but some are saved. What can't be saved are the eleven people that died in the horrific act of violence.
