okay! then keep the skill points the same ...

or have different lvls of badguys ...

weak: npc class, avg hp at lvl 1, no 4x skills
poor: npc class, max hp at lvl1, 4x skills
avg: pc class, avg hp at lvl1, no 4x skills
tough: pc class, max hp at lvl1, 4x skills

well okay, that might be to much paperwork ...

I take the DMG at its word when it says treat the NPC classes like PC classes, so if the players get max hp at level 1, so do the commoners.

except that all the examples of 1st lvl warriors in the MM all have avg hp. ... then again I guess they would be 'monsters' and not npc's?

And speaking of the feral template, yes, it does kick major A**.

I made a feral barb to compete in some gladiatorial games and he ended up being a crowd favorite. Especially after literally ripping several orcs apart.

I have much fun with him.

Hmm, maybe I should start up a small gladitorial campaign for my players as a small diversion between adventures... Feral Ogre Mage anyone? :D

This is right. I was wrong. I missed the paragraph about the difference between "elite" and "average" classes in a later section. That info should have been in the beginning of the NPC section.

Raging kobolds handaxe and shield??? NOOOOOO!

Give them exo weapon prof (dwarven waraxe) and BEHOLD THE TWOHANDED KOBOLD AXEWARRIORS!

Honestly, Rage isn't worth it for onehanded weapons.
