The Monster is Impervious

My kid's grand accomplishment of the day was getting up on her hands and knees, drooling on the carpet, and faceplanting an inch forward ... then giggling and doing the whole thing again.

Then again, she's 5 months old.

Cool story!

Reminds me of my younger days when I was the kid running dear old dad through the dungeon. I think I was 8 or 9. I insisted that "1d4" meant "one divided by four" or 1/4th a point of damage. I was rather confused why damage got less as the weapons got larger, but we played just the same.

Something about escaping from prison, and about 3 hours later, dad and his two henchmen (a hobbit and a blind Trolloc) made it to the surface.

Fond, fond memories. Cherish them. Also, buy him the Basic game. It'll light up his face and heart.

My daughter turns 2 this week. Currently her idea of gaming is tossing around a plush d20 and spreading my minis out all over the house. Ah well, it's a start. :)

Hee hee hee.

That's good! We know we won't get any new blood roleplayers from today's Magic and WoW affected kids, we'll have to raise the next generation of players ourselves! :D

How old are your kids?

The Princess just turned 9, while the Barbarian turned 6 in May. My friend Scorch (as he's known here on ENWorld) actually ran them through a few sessions of a pseudo-D&D, using some minis, a map he made (which I really need to do something with) and some simple dice-rolling for fun. Anyone who played the Neverwinter Nights expansion, Shadows of Undrentide, will remember Deekin, the kobold bard. Scorch had him as an NPC they met and befriended while trying to defeat a terrible giant at the Big Castle above the Little Town. Amazingly fun stuff. If I can find it, I'll post the map...it was great.

Here's the happy DM himself, with one of his creations:

To give you an idea of what Scorch's stuff looks like, here's a sample of his work:

Now imagine a big room with a magic circle on the floor and a circular staircase to a raised dias.
