The more I read about Arcana Unearthed...

...the more I curse the heavens, and realize that I'm going to wind up buying this thing.

Having now read the article on truenames, and having kept up withe the design diary, the more I find myself exclaiming, "Cool!" and start thinking about stashing away an extra $40.00.

Darn you, Monte! You're gonna make me buy this thing, too, aren't you!?!?!

:D

Yeah, me too. I've already pulled money out of my GC fund for purchasing this one when it comes out. Even if I don't use half the stuff (and I think that I probably will), I want to have all of Monte's ideas to read through...

This looks like it will be the game of the year for me. No other game comes close in building my anticipation. I'm getting this and happily, and I'll dish the 90 for 3.5 but I'm getting 3.5 mainly because I'm a geek who needs the latest and not because I really want it.

I was bummed about not getting in on one of the Arcana Unearthed games at GenCon, but I'm still going to pick it up.

It is being released at GenCon, isn't it?

As for 3.5, I think I'm goingto wait and see if I actually need it. My books seem to work just fine so far, and most of are games are D20, but not D&D.

But yes, AU looks totally cool!

As a Arcana Unearthed Playtester, all I can say is .......

AU is great and will be worth the price of admission.

Whether you want to run a Diamond Throne campaign or mine the material for inclusion in a existing campaign, AU has alot of great stuff. Our group loves the magic system so much, we are not going back to the old 3E PHB one.

I'm pretty sure I'll buy AU, but I doubt it'll actually replace by PH or get added into my game wholesale. I really don't like the idea of more than a dozen or so core classes, and I have my own list of races for my homebrew.

Rather, since I've pretty much determined that I need to overhaul the magic mechanics almost completely to make myself happy, I'll be using it as an inspiration and a check to see how Monte balanced things, especially the different sorts of spells. Since it sounds like things are still largely slot based, I don't think I'll use his system as-is, but I can still learn a lot from the way he multiclasses his casters.

I've also decided that, with a revision of magic, I'll need to revise all the classes that use magic. That is, all but the Fighter, Rogue, Monk, and Barbarian, and I don't much care for the Barbarian. I'll be grabbing many ideas from AU on that front, too. It sounds like he's got some rather interesting classes and they should be well balanced. I'm especially interested to see how the different fighter-types are different since I like sword-slinging heroes more than spell-slinging heroes.

Basically, I've resigned myself to the idea that I'm not going to be playing D&D in 6 months, anyway. It'll just be my own little d20 game. I figure I've got as much reason to bastardize AU as 3E (and by extension 3.5). After all, they both come (at least in part) from his head.

Between that, Midnight,

I've been wondering how feasible it'll be to bash AU and Midnight together. I'm thinking that the world of Midnight must have other continents -- maybe things are different there. :D
