IMX, it aint the characters that are a problem, it is the player. Some players, you give them a finger and they take your whole arm.

You might want to check out the Smackdown thread (9pages+ long) in the RUles forum. Now THERE's a place for powergaming / munchkinizing goodness (if you're into that type of thing)

wizards.com will help you a lot more than this place will.

I'm also going to move this thread to D&D rules, because it is the home of the legendary "sultans of smack." Hopefully, someone can give some particularly nasty combos to build on.

One of my players (a closet power-gamer) is currently constructing a sorcerer with a lot of [Force] based spells. I even created some new [Force] based spells for him. Hopefully, they won't get out of hand. I'm thinking that any creature with bludgeoning resistance is probably also going to have resistance to [Force] damage. So, that might help slightly. So, we'll see. He's also looking into adding a bunch of etherealness spells to his list, so it will be interesting. But, if anyone can take a concept and push it to the limit, he can do that.

Before he gets too attached to the idea, make sure he knows that spells from an ethereal caster do not affect material targets. The [Force] descriptor only helps in the opposite direction.

Say, now... there's a thought.

If he's got custom force and custom etherealness spells going on... a modified Wall of Force the produces a hemisphere with a floor, trapping you inside with the BBEG... followed by a spell that turns the target creature Ethereal... followed by a leisurely barrage of Magic Missiles.

He's Ethereal, so he can't affect you; he's trapped by the Wall of Force, so he can't run away; but your Magic Missiles can still hit him...
