...But, if you have the latest virus definitions and have done a complete scan and nothing was found you may not have launched the virus after all. It could also depend on what email you use...for instance, if it's a corporate email then it could have been scanned before it was delivered to you and the infected files removed. As a result, the attachments you saw could have really been 'empty'.

I'm not sure about McAfee, but Norton has an option to enable email scanning which can also provide an extra preventive measure.

I hope you're right. I updated McAfee before running the complete check, but I think I'll do so once more just to be safe.

I do have McAfee scanning my emails (Norton would lock up my email program for some reason), so I may have gotten lucky.

No problem at all...I would also take a peek at the McAfee link in my previous post and check some of the things they suggest such as registry entries, etc. just to make sure it's not overlooking something.

This is sort of on topic - it's how annoying AV scanners are making these problems worse (because if your address has been used, you almost always get a message from the target saying you send an infected email, even if you haven't)
