The Mystery in Bridgetown

Whisper makes a face demonstrating his disgust at the sight. “That spike tells me that either headhunters or cannibals have moved into the area. From just one marker, I do not know if they are residing near this spot, or if they are warning od their presence farther along. They could have simply intercepted the normal transport. We should probably search around here, first, to see what we might find. What say you?”

Cycle: 499: Day: 182. Season: Chilling.
Jaguar: 37(perception) + 41(olfaction) + 7, 7(d10) = 85
Whisper: 31 + 40(clairvoyance) + 8, 2 = 79, 73
Exploring the immediate area takes the two into the foothills of the Dragon’s Spine mountains. This particular area is mostly grass with occasional trees. More trees grow to both the north and the south. A definitive game trail follows a dip in between two hills of differing heights, which brings the two to a spot others have used as a campsite. The spot is shaded by a smaller acorn tree that seems to be used for a bedding spot for animals when not occupied by people. The people who were there last could have been those who set the totem but nothing is definitive. While exploring, Jaguar discovers a small herb growing in a crevice that is useful for mending wounds. Whisper happens upon a chunk of rock that looks to contain some ore. Breaking the rock against other stone yields 8 ingots of iron. A dark, red, opaque stone, about the size of a thumb knuckle, that contains streaks of purple and a translucent, yellow stone, about the size of a thumb knuckle are also discovered.

The day of investigation shows only the formerly used campsite but no definitive evidence of its previous occupants. Poking around in the old cookfire does not reveal any bones of people, only small bones of animals. This could mean that the marker belongs to headhunters but not cannibals. While one is a problem the other is a complete blight upon civilization.
